I'd like to sell my Remington 700 and get a 700pss or one of the 700 varmint rifles.  It's a 700BDL,wood stock, .30-06, with a Simmons scope from Wal-mart that was around $150 2 years ago.  The rifle is in perfect condition and has less than 300 rounds through it.

Any ideas on what it's worth?  Since deer season will be coming up shortly this is probably a good time to sell it.

While we all love the 30-06 cal, it has become the step-child caliber to .308 & 7mm Mag, it seems.

Your rifle should fetch around $300 if you find someone who wants it. Otherwise, you'll probably get $200-250. Yes, I know that's giving it away but there's a VERY limited market for these wood stocked 30-06s.

I'd almost suggest hanging on to it for the kid/nephew/neice/grandkid ?

You can do what I did with my 700 30-06 BDL.

Add an HS Precision LA tactical stock $270
Add a varmint weight Shilen 30-06 barrel $230
Add Badger Ordnance scope mount & rings $220
Tune the trigger

It will keep five 190 grain MKs in a 1.5 inch circle at 200 yds.

Something sounds odd here G31, as even 2 years ago Remington 700 BDLs sold for WAY more than $150.........., even at Walmart.

That fact a-side, as alluded to above by DnPRK, if indeed yours is a Rem 700 receiver and not the cheapie 710, modifying it with a custom barrel, stock and adding a new Leupold, will get ya a 1000 yard sub-MOA shooter if your gunsmith is worth his salt, (lapping bolts and trueing receiver/barrel fitting is an art-form, IMO).

My choices were 1/10 twist Krieger, Hogue full-length "aluminum" pillar'd stock and Premier Recticles' "Gen II" 6.5x20x40 Leupy.

Of course, if it's the 710 receiver, I'd scrap it, but ya can't pass it off to someone who knows the difference between 700 and 710 receivers.

Mike

BTW, price for clean Rem 700 "BDL" LA, is from $300 - $400 depending on accessories....

Because of the poor sentance structure, I almost made the same assumption. Common sense tells me that he's referring to the cost of the scope.

Regardless, I recently bought a like new, Winchester Model 70 .30-06. It came with a Simmons 3-9X40 and an Uncle Mikes padded sling. The seller was desperate. I paid $250.00 for it and feel like it was one of those deals that doesn't come along very often. G31's Remmy should sell for $350.00.

Please excuse the hell out of me and my poor sentance structure, or did you mean sentence?

So which is it?

Ya paid $150 for just the scope? or
Ya paid $150 for the Rem 700 and scope?

Inquiring minds want to know, no matter whether ya can string a sentence together or not....

Well at least, I'm curious,
Mike

Thanks for the input.  I was hoping to get around $400 out of the combo, which would at least buy good glass for a PSS.

Leupold Vari-X IIIs and Mark IVs, are a bit more than $400, and the Premier Recticle "Gen IIs" are similarly priced, so don't expect to do much better w/ the PSS and "cheap" glass.

You may benefit from some further research into precision rifles as the "glass" and mounts are just as important as the rifle, IMO.

And again for the cost, a well built Rem 700 (which ya already have in your paws) with a quality custom fast twisted barrel in whatever caliber and good glass, will in the hands of a competent shooter "out-shoot" any factory Remington rifle, PSS or otherwise, and at a much cheaper price, provided your gunsmith is good...., leaving ya w/ more money to spend on a precision scope.

Just my opinion, take it or not, no never mind to me,

Mike

Don't get your dick in a knot. It wasn't meant as a put down. Read it and you can see why someone might be confused.  Yes, I meant "Sentence", spelling Nazi!
