G36
Caliber: 5.56x45mm (.223 Rem)
Length: (buttstock open / folded) 998 / 758 mm  Barrel length: 480 mm
Weight empty: 3.6 kg (3.3 kg G36E)
Magazine capacity: 30 rounds standard
Rate of fire: 750 rounds per minute

What does everyone think of the German Armie's latest battle rifle? Aside from bad ergonomics, heavy trigger, overheating of the handguards during the sustained fire, and the loss of zero in the built in scope on some G36KE rifles, this is a pretty good weapon. It's basically a modernized AR-18 in a plastic case. Maybe a G36A1 could improve on all of the shortcomings. What is everyone's opinion?

According to a recent article someone pasted to the GD forum a few days ago, a modified version of this weapon may replace the M-16 and M-4 in US service in a few years. Of course I have seen reports like that before that never panned out.

As far as quality goes, they seem to be great guns but a little on the fugly side. But I must say they still look better than those horrible bull-pup designs.
