A 7.62 X 54 will NOT work in a 308.

THANKS guys, I'm in a commie state and having trouble trying to get ammo shipped here and just running around like a chicken w/ head cut off. THE AG here wants to keep the ammo sales here for the $$$$. I found out the 762X51= .308 The other 762X54 is a russian round I was told. Anyways what I ordered is the right stuff(its in transit) and I did not know which it was........I got to go shoot myself
 so'ta'speak.

 www.entreprise.com/News/images/sgn_3d.gif The 7.62x51 NATO round is on the left. The 7.62x54R round is in the center. Both bullets measure around .30 caliber but the likeness ends from there. The biggest difference is in base of the cartridge, I'm not sure if the "R" stands for "Russian" or for "Rimmed" but there's a huge rim and a wide base to the cartridge. |

Ha! I've got a round or two of 7.62x54R (R=rimmed), one or two .45-70's and one .38-70 Winchester. Also, I still have a box of .357 RemMax. |

I've got a case of 7.62X54R 'hunting' ammo with nothing in that caliber. Found the ammo when I moved and guess I must have gotten it with some gun I bought as I sure don't remember buying any.

I have some 50 SLAP and a 2mm pinfire. BEAT THAT! I have a bullet collection that I am working on, have over 300rds to date of differant calibers and types.

I got you all beat! I have: Voere caseless electric primed cartridge, 6 and 8 guage shotgun shells, 3 different sizes of pinfire rounds, British 9mm rimfire shotgun shells, 25, 32, 38, and 44 caliber rimfire cartridges, .45 acp shotshells (USGI!), 4mm German ZimmerShutzen cartridges, Brass 12 guage cartridges from WW1, Dardick "Trounds", a Gyrojet 13mm cartridge to name a few. I also have some 75 or so full boxes of ammo from the early and middle 1900s, and about 200 various other cartridges displayed in my reloading room. Balming |

Back to the 7.62x51=7.62x54R its good to see that you got the straight but DO NOT mix it up with the 7.62x51R. There's two rimmed 30 cal cartridges stateside that have the same dia and length but rimmed. They are better known as 30-30 Winchester (30 WCF) and .307 Winchester.
7.62x51 is the military (7.62 NATO) name for .308 Winchester just as 5.56x45 is .223 Remington and the 7.62x63 is cal.30 Model of 1906, .30 US Govt, 30-06, .30 M2, .30 M1 etc. De Oppresso Liber |

clindt, check your mags carefully and make certain they don't say 'ArmaLite" any where on them........there were a very few ArmaLite mags made when they were testing the .222 back in the 50's. 5sub |
