Remington 700 PSS torque specs????

[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Remington 700 PSS torque specs????

I am reassembling my PSS and cannot remember the the torque I am supposed to use on the two main bolts that mount the stock to the receiver.
If any one knows this info, it sure would be appreciated.

65 inch-pounds, I think. I have one of those T-handle torque wrenches and that's what its set at. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. HTH

I had also heard 65 pounds...I just put a new McMillan stock on my Winchester Model 70 and I called them and asked them the same question, and the man said to use 45-50 pounds on the McMillan stock because he was afraid I might strip the threads at 65 pounds..........

I wouldnt go over 65... but I think the more important thing is to have equal torque front and back.

Action bolts...65 inch#
Scope base...15-20 inch#
Rings to base...65 inch#
Ring caps...15-20 inch#

jem375, The PSS comes with an HS Precision stock, not McMillan. HS recommends 65in/lbs. I'd go with that too.

Do you mean inch-pounds?

I called Remington about this and they said that for their LTR model, the stock should be torqued down to 45-50 inch*pounds.

The PSS model may be different, but I doubt it.

Torf, yes the 45 in lbs is about right for the standard bottom metal guns. If you changed that out to steel, (badger, etc) then.. you can go with the 65 in lbs.. :)

While I never had any problems with torquing my action bolts to 65 inch#, 45-55 seems like it would work too. If you're not getting the accuracy you'd like from the gun, increase the torque slightly, until it starts hitting where you want it to.

All my stock Remys are 50 to 55 inch pounds.Unless bottom metal was changed out.
