A drone of engines above your home cause you to turn down the "A Team" and go to your window. Floating downward is a full Regiment of Russian Descent troops. Looks like the balloon is going up, boys! Heading to your glass and wood gun case you select one of many yet-unrestricted firearms of the period...

What would it be? A .308 Galil or an Uzi 16"-barrelled carbine? An HK 53 or the faithful SP1? Or something entirely different?

Um, what would I use? Pre-ban Para FAL STG58 with the folding stock... muhahaaa...

in 1984 it'd have been a squirt gun....I was 5 years old! But out of my selection today..25MN .22MAG. Light, detachable mags, can carry lots of ammo in a small pouch/pocket. 30/30 would be cool but it's lever action. P22 (supressed) would be good up close and personal. A 1911 would eb good "insurance" in up close and personal situations.

Sonny Crocket had a silver slide/blackened frame Bren Ten that was in reality converted to fire blank 45ACP because it was easier to find blank 45ACP than 10mm, toward the end of the show, he used a S&W4506. New Bren Ten mags can be bought new from Tom Forest Inc, of Lake Forest, Calif. I bought one extra mag about 10 years ago, for my all-black Bren Ten for $125.

You know, on and off the subject a little bit..In the DVD of Red Dawn, in the pull out it talkes about the making of the movie..When they shot the paratrooper scene, some of the jumpers landed way off course and wound up hung up in trees in someone's backyard begging for there life...

Could you amagine during that time trying to explain that you are not really a Russian Paratrooper, but just an actor shooting a movie. All the while holding an AK-47 in your hands?

I would never have belived there story and those actors would not be with us today!

Considering it was 1984 (Watching it now BTD..DVD kicks ass) I bet a lot of people would have filled em full of lead! Let's see I could have used a SP-1 or a Norinco underfolder. Maybe a M-1 and a SPAS-12.

That movie really ruined the market for cheap military style weapons. After that movie came out evryone wanted a military style weapon of some sort.

Those guns costed (in 1980s dollars) $500-$600 depending on model, and $800 for dual caliber(10mm & 45ACP) model & $1,200 for a Jeff Cooper commemerative.

The other mitigating factor to the lack of the Bren Ten's success was that it really didn't stand up very well to a regular diet of 10mm. Remember that back then only "full house" loads were available and the BT was already long gone before the FBI went poking around with the 10mm.

Yep, you're right. I was at my favorite indoor range shooting my Bren Ten with my downloaded 10mm(its equiv. to very lightly loaded 45ACP), and the darn extractor flew off! Oh man, I was scarced $hitless, because if I didn't find it, I would've been screwed because find spare parts is pretty much zero. I have stopped shooting it now.

And I can remember complaints that it was "too expensive" back in 1985 (when Ruger 77s were a paltry $250 and AR15s went for $300).

In 1984 I had only my mini-14 in a Butler Creek Folder, a SW 44mag and my trusty PPKs. Oh, I think I had an Ithaca Pump but that was a long time ago. I didn't get an AR until a few years ago. I surely would have killed a Rusky and taken his AK.

I thought about it since I first saw the movie Red Dawn years ago. Why didn't the movie director and NRA director John Milius show people with ARs & Mini-14s? I think that Milius wanted to show that most people in the mid-west had only six-guns such as Patrick Swayze's SAA and hunting rifles.

They would have been good enough to take out paratroopers in the sky still.

While an AK would have been OK, I would be looking for a SVD. RPG's would be nice too.

I would have taken my neighbor's boom box and played that crappy 80's music at full volume. The Russian paratroopers would have shot themselves..

or I could have went over to the twin's house and made a hairspray bottle bomb.. those girls still look cute..however it looks like they use less hair spray now....

in all serious, back then it would have either a Remington pump 22 or an 870.. that's all I had back then (hell I was only 14)

How about a 30cal M1 Carbine, a heck of alot cheaper piece of equipment and chambers a more powerful round. The 30carbine round has ballistics close to that of a 357Mag.

I was at flight school at Fort Rucker when Red Dawn came out. I even saw it at the base theater. You should have heard the applause at the end of the movie. I think everyone in the theater wanted to kick some commie butt that night. So I guess I would have picked a 2.75 inch rocket to stick up their butts! However, I was also very partial to a M16 with a 203 attached to it. 203's could always do the trick for me.

When Red Dawn came out I was 19 and had been an Infantryman for two years. M-16A1 I suppose, although I had a tricked Mini-14 and an SP1 AR-15 to fight my way to the armory!

They also hand out at least one Mini 14 when they raid the POW camp.
