Your company is about to cross the Perfume River and take back Hue from Charlie. It's going to be a tough nut to crack, nasty city fighting the whole way. What US service weapon of the era do you choose?

Was the M203 in service at the time of Tet? A Xm177 or whatever the short telestocked M16A1 was would be near the top of my choices, or a Remington 870/Winchester M12/Savage-Stevens M77/Ithaca 37 etc. A battlefied pickup PPSh41/PPS43 or MAT49 would be nice also.

M-16A1. It's easier to fire on full auto as you hold it up and stick it over a wall.

But seriously, The fighting is well within it's effective range, you can carry a sh*tload of ammo and it will kill the enemy. That and you can fire it blindly over a wall on F/A and not lose control of it.

Would my Company be H 2/5?

Like it was said . City fighting.. M16 all the way...I love the M14, but to take back the city would be better served by the M16 in my Opinion.WarDawg

Are crew served weapons allowed? How about a M50 Ontos? 6 106mm recoilless rifles (firing beehive fletchettes), M1919 mg & whatever individual weapons the crew has.

A M42 Duster with twin 40mm Bofors automatic antiaircraft cannons would also tend to take care of charlie.

Both would be RPG magnets though.

Same for the M42 Duster, though the twin 40mm Bofors are slightly quicker to load. A deuce & half with a quad .50 in the bed would be nice also.

I'll take the 16, a carbine if I can get my hands on one. Hue was very door-to-door and I'd like something lightweight and instinctive. M-14 would be my second choice, even though its too big. I don't think I'd want to do room clearing with "the pig" M60.

Maybe borrow a Carl Gustav/S&W 76 from some special forces boys?

M2 Carbine

Heavier bullet, light ammo, nice easily handled weapon.....

and fine for door to door fighting

Or the Deuce and a half my buddy had on base that had a Gatling gun in the back of it, they used to back it towards th ewire whenever Charlie felt like playing......

A friend was telling me about getting trained on the M-14 and then just 2 weeks before shipping to VN they trained him on the M-16. He didn't like going to a lighter round. They told him that the smaller bullets meant he could carry more ammo into combat. He & his buddies replied, "Yeah, and we'll need all of it too!"

My recruiter, GySgt P.G. Logue, fought at Hue with H/2/9, "Hue's Hotel Hogs"

I'll take a M16A1, a salty platoon, and a shit hot radioman to call for fire.
