Remington 700P TWS..... any good? Any experience with it?

The standard Model 700P and the Tactical Weapon Systems (TWS) feature composite stocks reinforced with Du Pont Kevlar and fiberglass. The stock is laid up around an aircraft-grade aluminum bedding block that runs up the entire length of the receiver.

The TWS package includes a Leupold® Vari-X™ III (3.5 x 10) scope with a Duplex™ reticle and flip-open lens covers.  A Harris bipod, a Michaels 1" Quick Adjust™ sling with swivels, a rugged Pelican® hard case, and sample of Remington gun care products to round out the system.  It's only available in .308 Win./26"BBL.

Well,
It depends how much they're asking.
I figure to get all the stuff seperately you come out at about $1558 (that's with a Mildot loopie not duplex).  If it's more than that I'd pass.  There's really nothing "special" about it other than that it's already assembled for ya.  For what they charge (I imagine it's higher than $1558) you could probably get all the stuff in the TWS package plus Badger rings and mounts and a TIS sling.

humm that looks like a remmy 700vz with a bipod, sling and scope.  nothin special about that.   get a remmy 700 vs or pss, drop on your fav scope and drop in a shilen or a jewel trigger and then you will have a specail weapon.  my pss in 308 shoots 1 hole groups at 100 yrds all day long with s. african ammo and a 27 dollar scoe from walmart.  im saving for a good scope.

So would I be better off buying say, an M1A?

I'm with Trumpet; there's nothing special here; watch the price.  These pacakges are usually put together for people who don't know better and don't know what things cost and are usually overpriced.  This is nothing but a Rem 700 action and barrel, with all the attendant quality control questions, in an aftermarket stock.  My recommendation is to buy a good 700 Varmint Special or similar, get a Badger Ordnance  piece base and Max 50 rings, your Scope of Choice, and save $$ while knowing you're getting better quality.

Well a 700P goes for $675-700 easy & you might check here www.swfa.comfor scope prices

I've shot a .308 LTR quite a bit & it's a great rifle & I have a 3.5-10 Leupold on one of my AR's that I think is great.
All the 700P's & the 700VS (& the Sendero)use a HS Precision stock

If the price is right you wouldn't be making a mistake if you want an accurate out of the box bolt gun.

Well let's see,
Remington 700P $649 from Tony at Town Police Supply in VA.

Leupold varix III 3.5-10 LR M3 mildot $699 from SWFA

Badger base $140 rings $155 from Georgia Precision

I'd build it up seperately and use the Badger metal and the Loopie LR M3 (the rings and bases the TWS package comes with are crap compared to the Badger and the Loopie M3 mildot is better than the one it comes with) and probably still come out ahead.  Put it this way, almost every time you get some sort of a "package" deal, something will be skimped on.  In this case it's the rings and mounts.  That sling looks like it might be suitable for a belt but certainly not for use on a rifle that might see some hard use.  Get a Tactical Intervention Specialists sling.  They're made by Mike Miller in CA and they are the absolute best.  There's a reason he's selling alot of 'em to SEALS, SF and USMC over in 'Stan.  In fact he leaves for A'Stan tomorrow.
Hope this helps.

Rich
