I have a 20 guage single shot that is full choke and the pattern is to tight for what I want it for ..my question is what is the laws on sawing off shotgun barrells...ie legal length.

18" for a shotgun. I would shoot for a little longer, if possible, just to be on the safe side when you do your cutting.

18" by law -I'd go no less than 18 1/4, just to be on the safe side.

I would suggest that shorning the barrel will not open the pattern up as much as you have heard from the gunshow wannabees.

If you want quick spread get a duckbill choke installed or install a rifled choke tube to spin the shot wad and increase the spread.

Be careful, because there is also a minimum overall length.

A gunsmith should be able to ream out the choke to the constriction that you desire.  It's a fairly simple process and shouldn't be too expensive.  You could also try spreader wad shells to open up you pattern.

Me thinks bukshot forgot to add a shitload of smilies to his post. I know I would use smilies if I had made a joke like that.

Ask Randy Weaver.......

18" for the barrel, 26" for overall length, Federal law. This could increase with state laws.
