I'm the (mostly)happy owner of a new SA Lightweight Loaded with night sights. Got it for a pretty good price (I think). $599

Anyway, I like it a lot, but after I ran the first 2 or 3 magazines (wilson) thru it, FTEs started popping up all over. Winchester cheap stuff has worked so far, but I can see the marks on the rim of the case that the extractor is making. It's just barely grabbing the edge. I took it apart and played around with it, but nothing's changed. Is it supposed to be canted a little to the left (counter-clockwise when viewed from the front)? Should I replace the extractor? I will NOT send it to them to play around with for 3 months.

You may want to get a new Wilson Bulletproof extractor from Brownells. I have used them in a few guns with great results. A extractor tension gauge is handy as well. You use them with a trigger pull gauge.

Agree with USMC. New extractor assembly should do the trick. It is still disappointing to have to do that with such a new gun, but hey, 1911s of all stripes are finicky that way sometimes.

Springfield for some reason only known to them has been shipping .45's with 9mm extractors. Replace it with any quality part (Wilson or Brown would be my picks) and you'll probably never have another problem. www.m1911.org on the tips section has a short article from Bill Wilson on how to tune an extactor.

I agree with everyone above... It's probably misshapen, or wrong. It's a simple part to replace, and it's one that will eventually need replacing anyway.

FWIW, my SA Loaded 1911A1 runs fine with the stock extractor.

It probably is the extractor but you may want to avoid WinClean Ammo as well. I've had FTE's with it in my Les Baer and no problems with anything else.

Nope, Springfield never put that series 80 junk in there guns.
Series 80 is a colt thing....Para too I think.

I picked up both an Ed Brown Match, and a Wilson BulletProof. I'll try them out sometime this weekend. The Wilson looks like it's very well tensioned. Thanks for everyone's input.
