Hi,
  I'm thinking about rebarelling a 98 Mauser for 450 Marlin.  What size is the case head.  Is it the same as a 338 win mag????  I have a bolt that would fit that.

Indeed the bolt face of your 338 Win Mag should work, the 450 Marlin - according to my data - has the standard magnum rim size.  That said, if you are rebarreling a 338 Win Mag action, why not go with the 458 Win Mag, or else the 458x2" American?

Yup, if you are going ot want a big bore then make it worht your while. I have no problems with a 450(except its  a bastard child of the 45-70) but why not go all the way and get something that really puts the hammer down?
