The new Beretta 96GSD in .40S&W (center) which combines the best of the Vertec and standard FS designs will, contrary to earlier reports, be available for sale to the general public in late January. Initial supplies are expected to go extremely fast and backorders will be the norm. MSRP: $999.00

I need your advice on creative ways to raise a grand. How do you get cash fast when you need it? It's never an option for me to sell one firearm to buy another, unless I have one that I hate and right now I like everything I have. Should I starve myself and save every penny? Sell blood? Slap it on a credit card and go into debt? Sell my furniture or tools? I MUST HAVE THIS GUN! Imagine it in your hand with a Surefire on the accessory rail and a suppressor.

Just charge it!  You'll pay it back eventually.  It's the American way.

Check for available paper routes...

Otherwise Redray does have point; why not combine business and pleasure? It's also suggested in the beginning of Way of the Gun.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's wrong with a Vertec in .40s&w?

Been seeing them sell in the $500 price range NIB, what do you get for the extra $500?

NIB Vertecs tend to run around $570-$580, at least in my area. The GSD combines the rail of the Vertec with the wider grip and beefier frame of the 96 and the longer barrel, front/rear removable Trijicon tritium sights. There are some other internal enhancements which I've forgotten about (visit link above). Beretta removed the palm swell from the Vertec grip and it's too thin for my liking. They also shortened it's barrel so that if you used a suppressor you had to buy a replacement. The GSD was originally intended for SpecOps and LEO's only.

Got any Savings Bonds stashed away?
If they're over 6-months old, you'll get face value + some extra...

It's how I got MY 1st Beretta 96 (CENTURION)!

Yuck, who would want to use a pistol with slide mounted controls for self defense.

If you have a wife, you are in luck... if not, get one...

Tell her she is sitting on a gold mine... when she figures it out, you'll either be divorced, or you'll get your money...

Especially ones where the safety is backwards (down is Safe?!?)

You gotta love them Italians!

-Troy <-- Whose European ancestors came from Italy, among others.

OK first of all the only control on the slide is a decocker.  Second there is no safety on this pistol so it works with a downward flick which works the decocker.

That said why would someone buy this pistol instead of a Sig P226 with rails for the same or less money?

So then you just end up accidently decocking it when you have to rack the slide to clear a malfunction. The Secret Service dismissed the Beretta because of the slide mounted controls when they reviewed it after the Army was issued theirs. The only reason Beretta ended up with the contract was to offset a licensing agreement for Bell helicopters in Italy. What are designers thinking when they design pistols with controls on the slide?

You dont have to worry about getting it for a while anyway. They are not available yet and when they are they will fill leo orders first then sell to civilian about 6 months after leo sales is complete.

Is the trigger bar disconnected when you decock like the safety does on the models with a safety. One of the other great ideas. Put the trigger bar on the outside of the frame so that when you pull the pistol out of a tight holster with the safety off it goes bang. Silly Italians.
