Just wondering how many use a slotted tip and how many use a jag when cleaning the barrel of their AR15. I use a slotted tip when cleaning mine.

I'd put a poll up, but couldn't figure out how to do it!!
Finnally figured out how to do it.

I use a bore brush and a slotted tip.

On my Sendero I only use a slotted tip and patches. This is because I only use moly coated bullets in it and I don't have to scrub it. A few patches and it is CLEAN!

I use the slot for my rifles but I do use a jag for my pistols. Don't know why but thats just the way I do it.

All I use are bore snakes anymore. (that wasn't on the list)
I will occasionally use a chamber brush on the end of a rod.

I use both, depends on what stage I am at in cleaning. Too bad I can't vote for both.
Oh, I keep meaning to get a bore snake, I keep hearing good things about them.

Both!

Gun Scrubber to blast the crap out of the barrel, CLP and a brass brush to work the crap loose, more Gun Scrubber to blast the crap out of the barrel, CLP and a slotted tip till clean, then one Jag and CLP.

I've got both, but I find myself going to the slotted tip much more often.

I've got a Bore Snake, but for some inexplicable reason it's yet to be opened! I'm gonna get off my *ss and put it in my Bushy's sekrit compartment right now.

I use the pierce jag and a length of braided 60 lb test with a loop tied in it to pull dry patches through. Just blow it down the bore with one of those cans of air, place patch through loop and pull it back out.

It seems like the slotted tips wedge the patch tighter down the bore than the Jag if you're using the proper patch size. Seems like when I us a jag on barrels, I have to use a slightly oversize patch to accomplish the same thing.

Obviously, one should visually check the bore after the final patch goes through, but with the slotted tip there is less chance of having a patch come off and go mia in the barrel.

I use a boresnake for my two .22CF's.

Polished SS rod with brass jag and brushes for everything else.

I never tried using a jag for cleaning rifles. I've been using an Otis rifle cleaning kit with the brass slotted tips.
I do use the jag tips when cleaning my handguns though.

When pushing patches thru I use a pierce jag.

When scrubbing with Hoppes #9 or Sweet's 7.62 I use a Parker Hale wrap around jag.

I never use any type of a brush.

I use the Parker-Hale wraparound style jags. I use the 1-3/8" square for the 5.56 and the 2-1/4" square for the 7.62. I use the pierce style jag for the 9mm and my handguns. The only time I use the slotted tip is on the shotguns, only because my jag is too tight, I can't ever get it to fit.

Both. Slotted for multiple wet passes with Sweet's 7.62. Jag for single wet pass with Hoppes Benchrest, alcohol (kills ammonia action), FP-10, or dry patch. Brass or nylon brush (depends on solvent).

Guess I should have included bore snakes in the poll too. Never thought about those. They seem to be getting a lot of votes.

tetra rod (best i've found), pierce jag with round patches on the fine rifles, slotted brass or plastic jag on the less accurate rifles.

bore guides and muzzle guides for the better rifles, also.

I use brass spear-tip jags from Pro Shot Products. Have you guys tried them? They are so well made you can't even feel the joint where you screw stuff on to the rod. They have every thing you could possibly need to clean anything from .17 to .50 BMG. They are not on the internet, but their phone number is: (217) 824-9133. They are located not far from me (Taylorville, IL) and the couple who own the business are very fine people. Their product line cannot be beat. I just got a new catalog from them last week.
