I advise starting off cheap. Buy a Glock in 9mm, some open mag pouches, and 5 magazines.

You will shoot in production, where 9mm's aren't penalized. If you like it, you can move up to a .40 calibre 1911 Para-Ordnance or STI with a 20 round magazine.

One site you might try is www.idpa.com.
It is a fun day of shooting.

SS is right - if your just getting started in run and gun - take a stab at it in limited 10. Ohterwise, IPSC guns are built. Find a good IPSC smith (yes there is a difference between a general smith, bullseye smith, and an IPSC smith - best to find one that is an active competitor too). .40 S&W is the answer, STI or Para is the platform.

Shoot and hide (IDPA) - read the rules before you dump a ton of cash into an exotic - it may not be legal. Basically, shoot and hide is a "would I actually have this on me on the street" deal.

I started with the 1911 single stack, 45 acp. Then about '91 I went 38 Super in the single stack (blue gun). A few yr ago I bought an Infinity slide, Nowlin barrel, and had a 5" upper made for a single stack match.

I have been using a SV framed 38 Super, Caspian slide, wilson goodies, C-More since maybe late '95. This is my current gun--I hold a "B-Open" card, OPEN Class: B Current Pct: 62.963 High Percent: 64.545 .

Refer to www.uspsa.org, or to this page <home.columbus.rr.com/jmaass/pcs_links.htm>, Jeff has info the the local club page links to so you can get some  info.

G22, high caps, 3.5 lb disconnector, and night sights will make a nice IPSC limited gun.
Safariland makes a nice belt, I like the 017 holster. Go cheap at first. Once you get in the game lots of deals come along...

I would look at a Glock 34.  I'm not a huge Glock fan, and I've never even owned one, but I've seen some amazing shit done with Glock 34s by people who won't shoot anything else.  For the money I think it would be an excellent place to start.

Not a bad deal here for the whole setup.

Another option.  Try getting a decent competition 1911 for under $600!

I can't believe I just wrote that, I love 1911s and I don't really care for Glocks.  But seeing is believing.

I second gardenWeasel's choice. Those CZ's, and EAA Witness pistols are hard to beat for the money. AND, they perk right along. I've never had a stoppage with mine when shooting bowling pin matches.

I shoot with a Sig P220 .45 and have for about 1 year. It is not the gun to play the game with if you are into the GAME but it is what I carry. I stay in the 50% or above in the rankings. On some stages were the lack or rounds (8) and combat sights doesnt matter I shoot way up in the standings. I am getting better every match and it is a blast.

If I was going to purchase a gun it would be a STI

But it would mean a change to .40 and I am not ready for that. to spend the money or the time to set up eveything

I can tell you the guys that win my clubs matches are world class and the top 3  all shoot 38 super cal .

I found this for cheap. I gave $350 with two 17 rounders. It has been used a lot but it shoots well and I think it will be a start.

That's what you're gonna say when it won't fit into the box.
You can use that L model for USPSA Limited, USPSA Limited 10 and both USPSA and IPSC Open.

BATMAN has referred you to an auction of mine:

I've got a Glock 34 (excellent condition), a Safariland 007 speed holster, a Safariland 079 double mag pouch, a Safariland belt, a BRAND NEW unused preban Glock factory hi-cap mag w/Grams+4 basepad (22 round capacity), Glock 10 rd magazine.  Everything but the pistol is brand new.  The pistol is in such perfect condition that if I wasn't such an honest guy I could lie to you and tell you it was new and you'd never know the difference.

I want $675 for it all, that is about $200 less that retail for this stuff.  I am a licensed dealer and will ship it free of charge (since you are an AR15.com guy!) to a licensed dealer of your choice.  Just get a few more mags and you'll be good to go for IPSC.  Holler at me if you're interested.

Thanks!   Paul

I've got the almost the same setup as Arkansas_Rocketman is selling. Its worked well for me in limited competition. Fast and no-nonsense, that rig is the one to have. I've got a G22 rather than the G34 as I bought mine pre-G34 (showing my age). Pretty hard to go wrong with that setup.
