I'm undecided between the TA01NSN or the TA31F.

My shooting is <200 yards, mostly <100 yards.  I'd like to use it for everything from CQB to the occasional 200 yard paper plate.  My rifle is a 16" A3.

Does the 4X magnification of the ACOG throw things off with close range shooting?  Would I be better off with a 1X?  There's clear advantages to a 4X, but I'm guessing there's a compromise in quick, close, target acquisition.

Thanks...h

If you go with the 31 the CQ issue will be moot. The illuminated reticle will provide an adequate POI with minimal practice.

I was reading up on that BAC feature on the TA31.  Looks sweet.  Anyone use this model ACOG?  Do you like it?  Is it worth the extra dough over a model w/o the BAC?  Like the TA01NSN?

Then again, if I'm gonna spend 800, why not spend 900 and get the 31 huh?  Plus a dust cover, kill-flash, and rubber eyepiece, it's a $1,000 scope!

WOW!

Should I get an ACOG or what!  (I'm trying to talk myself out of it, but it's not really working!)

If you just gotta have the Trijicon, I would recommend the 1.5x 16 Compact ACOG w/ the amber triangle.
I would much better in the house than the higher magnification ACOG's.

Booyah, I agree with Gambit, he named the perfect combination in my humble opinion.

Damn you all for your knowledge and choices!  I see where this is going!  I'll end up refinancing my house to buy 10 of these mofo's.

Haha!

Well, I've honestly not looked into the compact ACOG's at all.  I know nothing about them.  I assume 'compact' means they're smaller in size and probably have a smaller field of view?  If so I'd rather stay with a larger ACOG...

Hokie,
The prices you quoted seem a bit high. Check out Donnie at sableco.net, best prices around and you'll get it quick!

My first choice, too.

With the higher powered ACOG’s, make sure you can live with the eye relief.

I got the TA01 nsn and wish I had gotten the TA31, I cant complain I got a great deal but if I had it to do all over again I would get the 31, I have no problems shooting both eyes open and hitting up close with it.

YMMV but I dont think a .5 increse in magnification justifies the sacrifices you make going from a dot sight to a scope.

The 2x and 3x ACOG compacts have similar eye relief and FOV to the 3.5 and 4x fullsized ACOGs.  That would be my suggestion in the compact line.
