A couple of years ago I saw a Columbia, MO police officer put down a deer with two rounds of 9mm Speer Gold-dot, which is the standard ammo for alot of police agencies.
The doe had been hit by a Volvo and was obviously in pain, all of her legs were broken. Two shots to the heart and in 20 seconds she wasn't even twitching. Of course this was at point blank range, but then again most handgun engagements are, statistically.
I'm also a believer in Federal Hydra-shok and Remington Golden Sabers. Winchester SXT is good in .45, don't know if they make a 9mm version.
I've also played with Aguila IQ, it feeds and functions fine, etc., but is probably the only ammunition I've ever shot with enough muzzle flash to go from "cool!" to "that's annoying". There is no flash retardant whatsoever in the powder, which looks very Hollywood at the range, but is less desireable in real life.
