I know this will probably start a sh*t-storm but here I go.

I took my Colt pre-ban 7.62 and SLR 95 to the range today.  I actually shot better 100 yard groups with the SLR than the Colt.  First my Colt shoots way, 12 to 14 inches, right.  With the windage all the way left it hits close to the center of the target but doesn't group well. Also, the trigger pull on the Colt is very stiff.

SLR hits center of target with no adjustment, the trigger is smooth, and seems to have a lighter pull.

I never thought my SLR would out shoot my Colt.

Is 7.63x39 a new caliber?

You will be suprised of what you can learn when you do things yourself and dont listen to the pros whom never have done anything but only read it.

Yeah it's some Top Secret, Q Clearance, SOF/SOG Seal, Force Recon ammo I bought at a gun show.

It's a typo.

I have a Colt pre-ban 7.62 and an SLR 95.  Basically, I had the same experience with the SLR 95.  I had stayed away from AKs because of accuracy concerns.  The SLR 95 was surprisingly accurate at 100 yards.  Next time I go to the range I'll have to take both with me and compare them.

My experience has been the exact opposite.

With my Colt R6830, it was almost dead nuts zeroed right out of the box. Just needed some minor adjustments. With American Eagle ammo, she'll shoot 1.5-2 MOA all day long. Absolutely no problem drilling popcan size targets out to 200 yards 'till you get bored with it.

While I have never bothered to shoot them at a formal range, both of my Norinco MAK-90s are lucky to consistently hit a 10" paper plate at 100 yards. Popcans at 100 yards and beyond are a challenge.

I would feel totally comfortable hunting deer and small game with either of my Colt 7.62x39 AR-15s. Not so with either of my AKs.

It's one of those things that goes pop, pop, fizz, fizz and then you get the relief!

Your Colt has a problem.  You should not have to move the sight more than 3-4 clicks in either direction for windage. Your barrel may not be set correctly.  Get it fixed and test it again,  I have one that shoots great.

Got both. Off the rest I can't get the Bulgarian to shoot better than 5 inches at 100yds. The ar will shoot 1 inch sometimes for me( 5 shot groups). Without rest I can't tell too much difference( my fault-not the guns').

Go figure,
I can't do very well my Poly AK, but have great luck with a frankengun with the 7.62X39 upper on it.
