I would strongly recommend giving it a good cleaning before taking it out.  I didn't and had many FTE's and FTL's.  After cleaning it, there hasn't been a problem since.  When I broke it down, there was a sticky black sludge all over everything.  It was so bad that the pin in the ejector wouldn't even press down until I had soaked it in CLP.  After that, just have fun.

Clean, lube/grease, and shoot.

CLP the hell out of the rifle apart (as much as the disassembly goes in the manual, let it sit for a little bit, clean all of it off, and then put a light coat on everything while putting it back together. Get the barrel itself completely dry though, it doesn't need a coat, and don't use a brush on it until you've fired a few hundred rounds.

After you get to a thousand rounds, you'll have worked all of the bugs.

My Bushy M4 came dry as a bone, and I've found the secret to the AR-15 is to keep it clean and well lubricated.
