I've never seen or heard 30 rnds dumped in seconds. What about tri-burst? I was hoping someone new of a website with a good downloadable movie of some real full-auto. None of the superhero movie crap. I want to see and hear the real thing. I've owned an AR for several weeks now and was hoping to see and hear what all the fuss is about. Is it really all that different from fast semi fire?

I have done a couple mags from a MP-40, that was cool and it was fun to track it across my target.

I did 20 rounds from a M2HB, kind of disappointing, I want to do a 100 round belt next from a tripod instead of a pintle mount.

I also want to do a M-16 next.

tri-burst is a waste of money.
learn to bump fire if you can't get legal full auto, this is best done using an AK, and is totally legal

hold the forend stiffly at waist level, hook your right thumb in your right pocket, with your trigger finger straight and stiff, pull the rifle. into your trigger finger.
i'll now get a tirade of "that's poser crap", and "that's not safe" from the usual people on this board., but that's why this is america, YOU decide what's best for you.
you should be able to dump the mag in FA rate with very little practice, and it's fun.

now the disclaimer.

do this when you are TOTALLY sure of your backstop and area around you,as with all FA fire, it's hard to get used to controlling. this can be dangerous if you are not careful.
o.k. guys, flame away.
(edited to add, that while it's fun,it's mostly a waste of ammo and nothing beats the effectiveness of well aimed,fast semi auto fire.)

First full auto I shot was a full auto MP5 at The Gun Room in Las Vegas. It was by far the best handling weapon I have ever fired.

Bliss is being an armorer at the range, having two M240G's, 10,000 rounds of 7.62, and being told to burn it all off 'cause we don't want to bother turning it in. I never thought that that I could get tired of shooting, but this plain tired me out.

If you ever get the chance, fly or drive to Louisville, KY & visit the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot. You can RENT damn near any & every machine gun ever made & SHOOT that puppy!!!

Prices go $25 & up. Lotsa WW2 & East Bloc stuff too. Next one is in October.

It's really cool. But to be perfectly honest it's really only cool if you do it every once in a while (at least for me). When my mom still lived with me (she had the full-auto hardware) I used to shoot her stuff all the time and had a ball, but kind of burned myself out. I like it every once in a while, and I like to shoot stuff I've never shot before, but shooting for accuracy with a rifle and long-range shooting with handguns is far more challenging and entertaining (not to mention a whole lot cheaper).

Back when I was in, (ARMY) armorer's didn't have this kinda fun alone, it was shared for the whole crew or the last on the line

I did get to "op test" repaired rifles at the range, hehehe... "RO, I need the firing line for a min..."

but I have shot more than my fair share of FA. It has it's purpose, but for a personal weapon? "well aimed fire" is where it's at.
3rnd burst IMHO, is a waste. Keep FA on select fire rifles for when it's needed. With training, you can control the number of rounds launched downrange... much like the effective method taught on crew served weapons.. approx 8 rounds per squeeze IIRC.

The reason we (the armorers) had so much ammo to burn was because a month long fire-ex was coming to a close. We used some of the 1,000 or so 5.56 to do fam fire with some Navy dentists and doctors(They had never even fired an M16A2 before). The rest was left over because the unit scheduled to used it was tasked with some working party BS.

I bet if you search the internet you can find a semi-nearby range that rents full auto.

If you're ever near Manchester NH, there's a place right by the airport that rents everything from full auto AK-47's upto Beltfed M-60's (my favorite) though the Mac-10 is a fun way to blow 20 rounds in a little over 1 second too. Lots of hot soot on your forearm though.

Is it really all that different from fast semi fire?

get a JP match grade single stage trigger and a speed hammer. you will have to "tap dance" on the trigger but with 1/10" of travel it is the next best thing to full auto. with bump fire you shoot from the hip so it's hard to aim. the JP acts like a normal match trigger so you can aim from the sholder and fire single rounds and speed up the number of rounds per minute as you see fit. at maximum speed i can go thru a 30 round magazine as fast as a guy with a full auto! the best part is no tax stamp.

Full auto is a real crowd pleaser and fun to shoot but make no mistake about it, it has it's limitations. Unless hordes of Monguls are racing over the hill at close range you are still better off to aim, squeeze and fire one round at a time. Using full auto at 100 yards away the 1st round will hit, the second will be over his head and the third round will launched into the atmosphere.

With M16A2 shooting from prone I can keep a 30rnd mag in 1 long burst within the A zone of an IPSC target. From offhand I start a the lower left hit and will get 4 hits angling with the last being the upper right shoulder.

Plus most machineguns can just go semi with the flick of a switch when the time is appropriate.

Keep in mind there is a difference between a man with a machinegun and a machinegunner with a machinegun.

TommyBrown's comments are exactly right. Just like all of the other firearm related sports, it takes a helluva lot of practice to be good. Oh yeah, it's fun, too.

Aha!, FA (aka "Group Therapy" setting)one of my favorites....

For pure firing pleasure the M1A1 Thompson is just about right-just enough to let you know its' there and stay on target.The 1921 is a little too fast, and the 1928A1 a little to slow

For mad-dog-mean the MG-42/3.

For pure manly feeling the M-2, 50 cal. Machinegun is a real headturner.

My personal favs. and for actual use are Hungarian AK's then any other AK, The East German AK in 5.45 is a hoot and it stays on target. And the MG-3 whole lotta bullets on target with that one.

That's what prone is for if you use a smaller caliber weapon and that's why we have tripods and maybe bipods too: Steady that big gun. M240G is quite steady on bipod and awesome on tripod. M2HB can't be beat on tripod.

Also: There is something called controlled fire: fire bursts at full auto instead of going spray and pray rock n' roll mode.

Cyclic mode, as I call firing a whole clip/belt/box at fullauto, is only good if the baddies are within 25 yards of you.)

5 NME's in a room? Burst in and fire cyclic mode!

Hordes of NME's in the brush just 10 feet around you? Fire in cyclic mode!

IF get a chance go rent one even travel a bit to go rent one. you will see why! my MAC 10/45 fires at a rate of 1100 rds a min a big string of brass flies, and your out. ive shot Ak47's
full auto, fired M16a1 and A2 with 3rnd burst
M60 mg etc! never did like the burst though. other than that there a blast.
