Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Q about markings on upper reciever near rear sight

About 10 years ago I was building up an  AR and I purchased a new upper shell. This reciever had a "K" stamped near the rear sight. The guy that sold it to me said that meant that it was manufactured by Colt.  I didn't believe him but I  purchased the receiver anyway. I no longer have that particular rifle but was still wondering what manufacturer the "K" stood for?
