just noticed this this week while shooting my SAR2 5.45.

the rifle never had any "trigger slap", but i noticed it slapping painfully and with more and more frequency when being fired.

is this something that can just "start happening"?????

I don't know. When I shot my SAR-2 for the first time, it took a few hundred rounds before the slap became painful and my finger went numb-It might have just taken a while for you to notice it.

Gee's lighten up would you.  People are allowed to have a little fun.  I would come to the board if everything was serious.

I'm sorry, dude.

I just have a sick obsession with picking on the weak minded!

I have a SAR-1, and I ground the disconnector (I think that's the part CampyBob would know) to be rid of the slap.  Although it improved, it seems like after a lot of shooting, I can feel it.

Its not hard to fix if you're willing to pull the trigger group.  The dark side of the board has directions, I believe.

The type of shooting you're doing makes a difference.  If you're lightly pressing the trigger to make your shots count, its hardly noticable.  If you're just blasting away (jerking the trigger), it can be annoying.

I'll prolly take mine out and grind a little more off it.

is it possible to "acquire" trigger slap?

YES
That's how mine happened. I had shot a couple hundred rounds through my SAR-2 without a problem.
When it started it kinda came on so it was barely noticeable and got continually worse. Before reading the posts online about the trigger slap I just assumed it was something that would go away on its own just the way it started but it just got worse to the point that it hurt to pull the trigger.

About 1 minute on a table grinder fixed the problem but you need to be comfortable removing the fire control parts on an AK.

If you do a search on the AK forum you should find pictures of what needs to be done.

I am in the middle of doing the trigger slap fix as I type this.

Excellent website for doing this yourself.

Very easy to remove the FCG on the SAR, the only hard part is the Shepherds Hook. Getting that back on was a pain but with a little patience and perseverance you can get it done.

While you have the FCG out, if you own a Dremel or have access to one polish the surface areas for a smoother trigger pull.

I'm waiting on Sears to open to go buy a cloth buffing wheel. Mine was DOA when I tried to use it.

I forgot to add the correct way to re-install the Shepherds Hook after you get it out

In my experience, sometimes the disconnector tail is not entirely at fault.  Even after modifying the disconnector as shown, SAR-(any)s may show none to light slap.  If you look to the floor of the trigger where the disconnector spring recess is located, then look aft of the spring recess between the two "tails" that engage the safety, you will see shiny wear at the edge of the floor.  I have found that this marred area engages the underside of the disconnector tail just behind the spring hole.  Removal of the marred area on the trigger floor significantly reduces if not eliminates the "residual" slap.

Also note that to some degree slap is inherent in the AK.  If you cycle the carrier and watch the trigger, you will see if "flip" about 1/8" to 1/4" as the carrier rides back over the hammer and displaces the disconnector rearward (slap!).  When the carrier returns forward, the trigger flips forward as the disconnector releases the hammer and the hammer wing(s) engage(s) the trigger hook(s).  AKs at Quantico did it, and had varying degrees of a "slap" impulse to the finger.
