1911's are ancient technology. Come into the modern century with an HK USP compact in .45 acp.

Para Ordnance P12 for me on regular concealed carry.
P10 if I have to get smaller. Seecamp .32 for pocket carry. NAA .22LR on a neck chain for Real small. I don't feel under equipped with either of the Paras. The others are a real compromise. |

My glock30 kb'd
replaced with SA ultra compact. Have yet to miss the glock. Will NEVER own another. |

Ancient and still around. I wonder what that means... Stood the test of time?  Glocks are fine if you like a pistol that floats and won't rust. They also have the advantage that if you drop them from a chopper 100 feet up and they shatter into 50-60 pieces then you can repair them with super glue. On the down side, if you accidently drop one into a fire it will burn and the fumes will kill you. And if it's windy you better keep them tied down, cause they're just a funny shaped balloon in a slight breeze. Then, again,when all that polymer finally does wear off, you've got a nice metal barrel. Drill a few appropriately spaced holes, and voila!, you've got a pretty nice flute.

If your a 1911 kinda guy: Colt Defender or similar (Wilson, Springfield, Kimber)
Otherwise: Glock 30 |

No question go with a Glock. Best damn carrying pistol. If you can manage a tiny bit larger, the Sig P-220 is the best damn shooting .45 out there.

Another my gun is better than your gun forum. If you can rent one at the local range, rent the ones your interested in and find out which one you like. Then go from there.
Personally I carry the 1911 style, but thats what I like and enjoy shooting. The point is what works for you may not work for me. Vice versa. |

I'm surprised that nobody has suggested a SIG 245, an incredibly good handling and accurate compact 45 despite it's shortened grip. I own both and have a hard time choosing between a 245 and the USP 45C. Both are stone reliable and accurate.
245 - better trigger, thinner for better concealment, 6+1 capacity, spare mags easier to carry (thin). USP 45C - grip fills the hand better, 8+1 capacity, familiar 1911 controls plus a decocker, spare mags about twice the thickness of a single stack design. I'm leaning toward a preference for the 245. |

1. USP 45C.
2. Springfield, Kimber, or Para compact-sized 1911. Haven't tried the SIG P245, but it most likely is as good as 1 or 2. Glocks are fine - until you have one explode in your hand while shooting it... |

Something that never happens with any other pistol.  Almost exclusively the Glocks that have KB'd have had reloads shot through them including lead bullet reloads. The practice of shooting lead bullets in a Glock with it's polygonal rifling is asking for disaster. Other KBs have been attributed to faulty factory ammo specifically Federal's .40 S&W ammo. Even TheBeerSlayer's Glock 30 which KB'd, admittedly had reloads shot through it. I don't recall whether they were lead bullet reloads. |

Although my personal preference is for a full size side arm, I believe the best "compact" .45 ACP currently available is the Les Baer Stinger. The Stinger I’ve tested has been wonderfully accurate, reliable, very shootable, and will easily fill ones need for a "compact" pistol. A distant second would be the Wilson Combat CQB Compact due to its price point and yet still use of MIM parts. I believe the Stinger is a better value. Also the Wilson Combats I have seen lately don’t appear to be as well fitted as the gun they were producing 3-4 years ago. Wilson still makes a hell of a gun it’s just not up to the standard of quality I’ve seen from Baer... but overall either would be a fine choice. Glocks, Sigs, H&Ks, and the like are all very fine weapons that generally work and work well but they simply don’t posses the same quality of ergonomics, simplicity, and user friendliness that the 1911 has in excess. IMO the 1911 is just a better tool for the job no matter what it’s age. |

I have carried the G30 for some time. It's a great gun that works well for me. I just bought a Kimber Ultra CDP, and I am very impressed with it. It's a bit smaller and thinner than the Glock. You can't go wrong with either gun, IMHO.

I own Glock 30. Very reliable gun but after shooting 1911s and HK USPs, I think it sucks.
First of all, I hate the sights on it. I prefer 3 dot sights used on 1911s and USPs. I just find 3dots system easier to aim in stressful condition. Glock 30grip is too fat for my hand. Its not very accurate compared to full size 1911s, HK USPs, etc. I guess that short barrel heats up so fast that accuracy diminishes quickly. Also muzzle flips up too much, full size gun with longer barrel might give you more stable shooting. If you just want reliable compact gun with big punch for conceal carry, go buy it. If you want a handgun for home defense, and target shooting, get a full size gun. I'll soon be getting full size Springfield Armory 1911 as my second handgun. :) |

I shot a Kimber Pro Carry II last week at pistol fun night, and I really liked it. I may switch to that as my on body 45 as the double eagle officers is about 1/3 heavier. I just have to get over the SA.
The gun was easy to handle in recoil, accurate, and had a nice trigger and sights. |

Both the Kimber Compact and Ultra Carry are fine pocket .45s. My Compact shoots sub 3" groups at 25 yards, so why would you need anything else?????
