Can anyone tell me if a Rem 700 PSS in 300 Win.Mag is a long action or a short action? Or could it be either? I need the skinny on this. I'm looking to buy a badger base and rings for a 700 PSS (300 Win Mag) and I don't know which to buy. I'm a little confused on the whole issue. Can you tell which it is just by looking at the action or does it go by caliber?
Thanks for the clarification on this.

Generally, short-action center fire rifles are limited to rounds with an OAL similar to 308. Longer magnum rounds will almost be always found in long action receivers. That's the whole marketing effort behind the WSM rounds; short action magnums.

You have a "Long Action" receiver.

It is by the caliber.

Short Action:

223,243,308, etc

Long action:

25-06,270,30-06,300win mag,7mm,338 win mag, ect
