BHD/Military Sniper Question

I was watching BHD a few minutes ago and was wondering, does the military use the M-16 for any sniper/designated marksman applications, like Gordon did in BHD? If so, what modifications were made to the rifles and do they have 'match' grade ammunition like the 7.62mm M852?

Edited to add - Do any of you have a medium range/designated marksman's rifle? What is your setup?

Do a search on the SPR subject, you will find what you are looking for.

Special Purpose Rifle is the weapon you are asking, it was build by Cranes for the Spec op guys.

Remember too, Delta pretty much uses what they want.

I watched the movie again last night with a co-worker that was a Somalia veteran. He said pretty much the same thing about Delta and their choice of weapons. Like other specialized forces, flexibility is a benefit of more experience and their training.

I am sure this has been asked but what sight/scope did the Delta guys have on their M-4s.

I saw Black Hawk Down for the first time last night. What was the light machine gun that was so lound that it made one of the rangers lose his hearing? It had a big yellow/brown(?) drum magazine.

Well I did some research and found what I wanted on the rifles, but I couldn't find anything on the ammo, if there is military match ammo or not in 5.56x45. Anybody know? I belive I read somewhere that they were using Black Hills match ammo, but Im not quite sure. Not a problem or anything, I was just wondering.

I heard about the Black Hills being used over in Afgan. When I asked about the match ammo, I didn't mean just in the BHD situation, I mean todays military in general.
