All of us started somewhere with something, for me it was a Remington Model 788 6mm L/H B/A. I started each of my three sons with a .22 B/A Wood-Chucker by Fort Worth Arms when they were 5 years old (now 12,10 & almost 5). Now the 12 & 10 year old shoot .243s

Mine was an M16A1 issued to me in boot camp. Before that I never fired a real rifle, only bb guns. My daughter is just old enough to legally fire my AR15 at the range and my son is only 9, so for him it is still bb rifles.

The first FIREARM I ever shot was a friend's .22 Marlin bolt action, back in 1972. The first firearm I owned was a H&R 20ga. The first RIFLE I owned was a Winchester semi auto .22

Mossberg 142A Bolt Action .22 S-L-LR of my dad's with a Weaver B6 Scope in a tip-off .22 mount. I love that rifle. Found a B6 Scope on eBay and the mount on eBay too... looking for the rifle so I can build one exactly like dads. I love the wood stocks on them with the fold down "tommy gun" style front grip... makes for a pretty effective monopod too and the have an AWESOME factory adjustabel trigger that you can tune down to about 1.5-2 pounds with the turn of one screw. They are a joy to shoot. I'd like to get a spare barrel too and have it threaded for a suppressor. That would ROCK!

The first firearm I was trained on was an old JC Higgins (sears) .22 bolt action rifle when I was 5.
Kind of cool is the fact that I was able to train my own son on the same rifle when he was 6. Even cooler is the fact the my own father learned from his dad using the same rifle as well. I'll hang on to it and when my son has kids he can train them on it too  .

First one was a ruger 10/22 at about age 9-10. Then mostly pellet guns. At 12, me and my friends fired a few shots from a 7mm Mauser. Big difference! Then I was hooked.

Winchester 1892 38/40. The round was so slow you could see it going downrange. I got a Henry Youth to teach my ten year old boy. Fits him just right. He'll outgrow it in a few years and I'll keep it for the grandkids.

The first rifle I firred was a 22/410. I can't recall the brand. About 10 shots of 22 then I went to the 410. In the same day I also shot my first pistol. Ruger Security Six .357, I was about 8 or 9.

Shot a freind's ruger bolt action 22 when i was 10. Was taught by a high school rifle coach on the anschutz bolt action (heavy fucker) at 14, and then grabbed a 10/22 of my own to practice with at 17 years old.

The first rifle I ever purchased was a Remington Nylon 66 .22LR was in the early 60's when I was in high school. What a cool looking gun and it was fun to shoot. Sorry I ever got rid of it. Saw one at the range a couple of weeks ago, boy did the memopries come flooding back.

My 1st rifle was a charter arms AR7 which I still own, its 19 yrs old and it still fires like a charm! it and my M4 are what my boy's are learning to fire with.

I started shooting at about age 4 or 5 with a rifle my dad bought for me...of course, with his supervision and handling only. It was (and still is) an Ithaca commemorative .22 lever action with an octagonal barrel. My father had put peep sights on it.
It is now in my sole possession, and I consider it to be the most valuable gun I own...simply because of the sentimental value. Plus, it's a damn fine shooter! |

A five-shot magazine fed "Springfield" .22 LR bolt gun owned by my now late father. Second gun was his Winchester 94 in 30-30, and when we found three boxes of EXPENSIVE Norma 7.7 ammo for it, his bring-back 7.7 Type 99 Jap rifle. My maternal uncle gave me his tube-fed Winchester 72 bolt .22, and it was my constant boyhood "woods companion".

Aside from my Red Ryder and Daisy pump up pellet rifle that I grew up with...
My adult shooting started with a Thompson/Center .50 cal. Hawken rifle kit. Next came an M1 Garand and a Taurus 608. Been spiraling down the firearms black hole ever since. |

My first gun was a Daisy Red Rider type bb gun, then I got my dad's Sheridan blue-streak pellet gun. My first real gun was a Savage lever action single shot .22LR rifle that my grandfather gave me. It was a pos and fell apart. My first centerfire was my dad's winchester M94 30-30. I still have that rifle. Funny... My dad took back the Sheridan when I got the .22, and still hasn't given it back. First gun I shot was my dad's Winchester model 61. Dad noticed that was too big for my five year old frame and from there we downsized to his High Standard Sport King pistol. That was 32 years ago and dad still shoots both of them regularly!

Arlady and I both learned on a Mini-14. The first time we shot an AR was quite eye-opening. The bullet holes actually can be close together!!!!!!!
Acutally the mini was great for plinking pop cans at 25 yards. Could not hit them at 50 to save our lives. The ARs solved that little dilemma nicely. |

Hey, that looks (almost) exactly like my first -- except mine had the black plastic fold-down foreend and open sights sted the receiver sights (142K vs. 142A). Got mine as a Christmas present when I was 8; it was stolen when I was 16, but I have since found two to replace it -- one is as-new, other is VG-Ex. from field use. The field gun is en route to Gemtech this week to be threaded for an Outback suppressor, LOL! Great minds..... |

1st rifle (other than bb guns) was a single shot bolt action Western Field/Revelation <?>(Mossberg) .22 that my parents bought 2nd hand for me when I was 13-14. Still have it & will never sell it. 1st shotgun: H&R break open single shot when I was 16. 1st centerfire rifle was/is a M1943 Spanish Mauser (M98) at 18, another birthday gift from folks. 1st rifle I bought for myself was a M336 Marlin 30-30 & it still serves as my SHTF/"social" rifle.

I would say my shooting started in 1994, with a Mini-14 I bought in a pawn shop to beat the AW Ban. But in high school my buddies had some .22's that we would take out to the woods and shoot.

My first was an unknown .22LR single shot bolt action of my uncles and then his pump action .22LR in the same outing at my uncles camp with my dad. It was a surprise my dad set up when I was 8, hence the borrowed guns. He took me out to shot the BB gun at age five, a Daisy Spittin' Image 94.
Then My dad's Mossberg 152K which looks very similar to the bolt action 142 previously shown except that it's a semi-auto .22LR with the black plastic forend. First centerfire rifle at 9 was my uncles Win. 94 .30-30 (marked: Property of the City of Toronto Police; odd what sticks out in a nine year olds mind, eh?). First shot gun: H&R Topper 12 gauge at ten that I bought myself. Funny story about the Mossberg: My dad's a bit of a practical joker... We were out at the range when I was a teenager. There was this gal w/ her boyfriend that was showing her how to shoot a .22 pistol. She was putting less than 50% of her shots on a paper dinner plate at 25 yards. My dad's 152k with it's 4X Weaver scope could hold a nickel (may even dime) sized group at that range. Every time she'd miss he'd put one right in the center of the plate for her. We struck up a conversation later with the couple and the boyfriend couldn't believe the progress she'd made. She's still probably razing him about how she out shot him that day. Ahhh, the memories... shootin' is fun (and you always (almost) meet the nicest people at the range). Kent |

The first rifle I ever shot (age 5) was a VERY old .22 single shot, which I think is a Winchester of some kind. I'd have to go to my dad's and look at it.
The first I ever owned (age 6) was a Winchester Model 69A .22 bolt action. I used this rifle in the NRA's Junior Marksmanship Program for a couple of years with peep sights, and put the scope back on for plinking later on. It still shoots great - VERY accurate! I would never part with it. If you look closely, you can see where dad cut off the stock so my little self could shoot it. Once I got bigger, I reinstalled the cut-off piece and refinished the stock. |

That rifle has a lot of recoil, throws brass about a mile (after damaging it) and is uncontrollable on full auto. After the G-3, I shot a lot og Garand M-1 - now that's a sweet rifle! |
