Either the Bushmaster Varminter or Remington 700 Sendero. Why? Because they are both really accurate and I love long range shooting.

That collection lacks a good 7.62x51 MBR, so I'd go with an FAL from ARS or AZEX, or the StG-58 kit gun from DSA.

Looks like he needs a good HK in there so a USP Compact Stainless Steel .45ACP would be nice

The Varminter seems to be a popular choice. Its a beautiful rifle.

What would a guy like this need to spend 900 on?

From the list you appear to be lacking a good bolt gun. Either the Savage 12BVSS in .243 or .308 would fit nicely and you would still have enough left over for a Nikon Monarch 6.5X20.

You could go with a Rem 700 PSS .308 in either the 20" or 26" barrel if you would rather go with Big Green but that would seriously limit your scope options if you were to stay with the $900 limit.

The BVSS comes in the following calibers:

12BVSS (223 Rem., 22-250 Rem., 243 Win., 308 Win.).
112BVSS (25-06 Rem., 30-06 Spfld. 7mm Rem. Mag., 300 Win. Mag.).

Hmmm, $900 could get you into:

an entry level Kimber
an entry level Bushmaster or Olympic AR-15,
a Mossberg 12 ga and a Charles Daily 1911
several Romanian AK-47/SAR-1s
a Sig P220 or P226
an HK or Benelli shotgun (low-end model)

....just to name a few!

It would depend on what your needs are, but any of the above would be a fine addition to anyone's gun collection.

I dont see an M1A or M1 Garand in that collection.

900 would either put a nice down pawment on one or get a really snazy example of the other.
Every toy chest should have at least one .30 cal american made MBR

I'd get a DSA FAL in .308, in its most accurate form...whatever that is.

20-rds. for lots of shooting and .308 for power and range.

Alright, alright, I knew that I'd get blasted for not including FNs, M1s or M-14s, but they are typically 1-200 dollars more than the budget that was mentioned, if you want a firearm that is well made.

I just picked up a NIB BM Shorty AK flattop, 5 30-rd Magazines, and 1 20-rder, which all cost almost exactly $900. I had an A1 shorty AK, and liked it a lot for it's accuracy, size, and weight, but taxes forced me to sell it. I decided on an A3 this time for the added versatility.

You definately need to get in the .308 game.For battle rifles you could go with the FAL from various manufactores,a couple of M1 Garands from CMP,a used M1A,a used Eagle Arms AR10,Cetme's are now $300.If it's possible to up your budget to $1100-$1200 then you're talking new AR10,new M1A.

What would I do?This is one of those 12 of one a dozen of another questions.It's possible to get 2 weapons out of the above list for $900.You can get a excellant FAL kit for $2-250 and put it together yourself or send it to Arizona Response or AZEX and they'll do it for $200.That would leave you $450-500 and you could get a CETME or a CMP Garand.

I just bought a Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker with Boss!

It's getting the 3X9 Leupold mounted today.

It's a real beauty!

Now I can drop anything in North America at 1,000 yards. Hooray!

A Harrington & Richardson Service Grade M1 Garand from CMP. $545/shipped.

2 400-round cans of genuine .30-06 M2 Ball ammo from CMP. $210/shipped

Total: $755. And you'll still have about $150 to kick around. More ammo for the Garand or your other toys.

Just my $0.02 as a Garand owner...

Gun law is so strict here, I can't buy anything I want even if I had the cash. I'll probably get FNFAL type rifle (the one with pistol grip and detachable mag, not some neuteured version which is being sold here) if I lived out of state. In Kaliban state, I'll buy me a decent 1911 type .45ACP pistol.

Ever consider getting set up for reloading? Time is gonna come maybe when ammo is going to be taxed to death, reloading will be the last option. For about $700 you can get a new Dillon 550 and every accessory needed, scale,tumbler,bullet puller,fill tubes,fliptray,gauges,deburr and trim, and pretty much everything else you need to start out right. That also would get you several pounds of the different powders you need if you reload rifle and pistol, primers, and bullets to get going. $700 is probably a little high but once you get going there are several doodads that come into play that you didnt count on. Once you have them though you will never have to replace them. Buy it all at once to save headache and buy QUALITY. There is nothing worse than buy a low cost peice of crap and having to rebuy the same item built to last and work properly.
But then again a used DSA FN sounds pretty cool as long as you can get surplus ammo.

That's a very great suggestion. I'll have to start researching the whole 'reloading' biz.

After my M1 Garand suggestion, I'd say that reloading is a pretty good idea also. Even if the weather is too crummy to go shooting, you can still do something "shooting related". Most reloaders I know say that it's pretty relaxing.
