or want. Don't get me wrong I think the .50 cal is the shit, and I thought about buying a kit until I contemplated it. I can't think of one place where I could shoot more than 500 meters, let alone pack around 80 pound bad boy.  Sure would be fun sniping dogs (coyotes) and coots.

I was at JTs (local gun shop) and they had 2 on display, I picked up a bullet and wonder why anyone would have the balls to fire off such a big round.

I would think a AR-10 would have most issues covered

You've obviously have never seen what one can do to a vehicle in person. There is no tape or video that can give you any idea what it is like to see one in action. The firepower is unbelievable and only out matched in my opinion by a mini gun. As a FFL/SOT it is the only transferable I would buy at a retail price. John

Several years ago I had a "too good to be be true" opportunity to buy a Barrett 50 (1500.00 cash). At the time I really didn't have the cash and I couldn't really justify owning such a rifle. I live in MA. and there aren't any ranges I knew of that would allow a 1000 yds. (or even 400 yds.). I would have had to buy a completely new press and even back then the compomnets were'nt cheap. I didn't do it. Do I have any regrets. Hell yes...do you know what that puppy would be worth today. Beyond the greed however, no real regrets.

NO non-firing replicas will do.It's not that
I'll use it all the time, but I'm not bothering anyone with it in my safe.

Think of it as Yin and Yang.

Confucious say "If you own 22lr, you need 50 cal to 'balance' the chi of the arsenal."  Until you have it, you will never know true peace.

Damn, I just convinced myself I need a 50 cal!

Chicks dig a guy with a big gun.

Does that mean I get all the Chicks?

Why not get a .50?

I can shoot 1 round of .50 for about the cost of 10 rounds of .223 ($1.25 vs. 10 x $0.125).  It gives me the same energy (roughly) as the .223, especially at longer ranges.  50 rounds through a .50 BMG rifle is a fair amount of shooting for a day--same as 500 rounds would be through an AR.

In the end, it's all because I can clear the benches next to me with the muzzle blast (especially when it's some inconsiderate clod who has been throwing his brass all over me for most of the day).

And, of course (even though I cannot have them here in IL)--what other gun can you find AP, API, APIT, Raufoss, SLAP (these last two are Gadawful expensive), and Spotter-Tracers to shoot?

I belong to 3 local clubs and none of them allow the 50 cal. If I thought I could afford it I'd buy one tomorrow. Why, beacuse I still can!
Maybe I'll sell the Harley!

1- go to a shoot, where live .50's are being fired. You'll find that a LOT of .50 owners are very friendly, and open to a newbie cranking off a few shots..

2- pick a LONG range target. 2000 meters, or more.
3- Aim, then fire. Quickly remove hearing protection, and listen. You should hear the echoing boom of the muzzle blast, then if the hit is solid, a definite splat as the round hits.

4- Realize why these weapons are sometimes called "The Hand of God".

Doing this with a tripod mounted ANM-2 is HIGHLY reccomended, and the opportunity to fire the M-85 quad mount should be jumped upon.. A near religious experience..

I never thought I needed a .50 caliber rifle, until, the FEDS and politicians said I should not have one and have no sporting use for one. Therefore, it is now mandatory that I build and/or acquire one ASAP. JarheadGunner.

They are cheaper to shoot than the Rem Ultra Mag....  And a heliva lot more fun.  The muzzle blast is amazing, watching it impact on a steal plate is amazing... heck... its just an awsome piece.

But to fully understand, you need to shoot one.

While we're on the topic of .50's (sorry to steer the subject slightly off), what do y'all think about the .50bmg uppers?  I am referring to actual bolt actions like the ferret or ALS; NOT screw-in types like the watson's et al.

For the price, they seem very tempting, especially since I can order it directly to my door as an upper.  Again, sorry for hijacking the thread.

Thanks

Heck if one of those crazy canadian hockey stick carrying troops can shoot with it.  Well think what a red blooded red neck could do with it.  Wouldn't even have to leave the porch to kill and gut dinner.
