Bushmaster is an excellent choice. Most here would advise ABC: Armalite, Bushmaster, or Colt. Bushmaster is the obvious choice. Watch-Six

Bushmaster is good and reliable. Just like Watch-Six said, Armalite and Colt are the other two but more expensive, but not better. Stay away from American Spirit Arms (ASA) because of problems and poor service if you ever have to take it in. Some people here like them but as a newbie you want something dependable that wont give you problems and can be easily fixed if it does. Bushmaster is the best bet.

I gotta agree with Bushmaster and Armalite but would add RRA in place of Colt.. Great value for the bucks..

Wanted a Colt, bought a Colt, choked and payed for a pre-ban Colt, love my Colt. Wouldn't hesitate to suggest Bushmaster or Armalite.

You would most likely be better off with Bushmaster. I am sure Armalite and Colt are very good also. Now do you want a 16" 20" 24". For fun or competing, With handle or Detachable. Free float, 2 stage trigger. What is your $$$$$$ matters.
I have a Bushmaster 20" XM15 A2. I love it and Bushmaster takes care of their customers. I am saving for an AR10T Armalite in 308. Look around and see if you could shoot different models. See what you feel comfortable with. I love long barrels 20 or 24 or a Varminter. Other people love Carbine's. Either way your at the right place to get the info you need. |

I would have to give a vote for RRA. My order would be RRA, Bushmaster, Armalite, DPMS, Colt.

Without a doubt go with Bushmaster. They're the closest to mil-spec and they have the best customer service.

Well let us see here. I do believe 'AR' stands for ArmaLite so I would go with ArmaLite.
Come to think of it I did ! My second choice would be Bushmaster. |

The first suggestion of Armalite, Bushmaster and Colt, ABC, is a good one. In my opinion, Armalite is the better match gun, Bushmaster is the "milspec" king, Colt has the "name" and will hold it's value the best.

Don't feel bad, I got confused too. That's why it took me about 18 months to decide on an AR. Finally bought a NIB Bushmaster DCM at a gunshow in Tampa, FL last week. I have put only 20 rounds through... barrel break in, but I sure like what I see so far. Fourth 5 shot group during zero was 1.5 MOA at 100 yards. Larry |

My advice is to do what I did:
1. Decide what style you want- m4? 20", 16", CAR stock, etc? what u want 2. Buy a stripped lower - can get Rock River Arms for $95 3. Buy a kit from J&T. Runs from $437+ i think (mine was $474-M4 style) 4. Go to old.ar15.com and get directions for putting your stripped lower together and put your gun together! This has allowed me to be familiar with my gun and exactly how it works. I have learned MUCH from it and about the AR. Took me and a buddy 2 hrs to do, but I could probably do it in 30-40 minutes now that I know what I'm doing..lol I also found an AR-15 video on shooting, cleaning, maintenance, sighting in, etc in a flea market for $8 that showed me exactly how to clean and maintance it. I got it still and watch it sometimes when I'm bored...lol Anyhow, that is my advice, it will familiarize you with your gun, show u how it works, and of course .... CHEAPER! |

Bushmaster. Dad has one, its fun to shoot and reliable (just be sure to have quality mags, the sportman's guide 30-rounders fail to feed almost always near the end of the mag, but the factory ten rounder is crazily reliable)
I'm tryin to decide whether it would be better for me to go with a Bushy or build my own, because money is a big issue here |

for you Tom1 , in the netherlands Bushmaster , DPMS , olympic arms are from stock , Armalite can be ordered by a gundealer. To get a new colt seems to be a problem at this time , they dont sell to holland anymore.The AR-15 I like is the type with 20 " barrel.I want to use it for service rifle contest , they dont allow much tuning so it must be near standard.Going to a dealer next week for an used Colt sporter HB , if it looks and shoot ok I buy it. greetings from Holland |

sout-east of holland , but Holland is small with not much dealers , so distance is not a problem.Sorry to say but never heard of cavalryarms in holland , will check the site |
