I have a 110 tactical and I love it.
It shot great out of the box. I too had trigger work done. The only thing I do not like is the "thin" stock. I would like to see a heavier stock with a wider forearm. I weighted the stock to make the balance better. |

You didn't happen to find two did you? I wanted one of these about 3 years ago when they could still be found but the $$$ situation wasn't right then. I'd sure like to find one now at the right price.

Shot at the range last year....Big Ducks Unlimited show. Most all gun makers were present and had tons of weps for shooting.
It was dead on. Clay pigeons at 200 on the berm were to easy. I own a 110 tactical and its a tack driver. Best weapon for the money... I too worked the trigger over and opened up the forearm......touched the barrel in a place or two. 300WM GREAT WEAPON! |

I have a 308, 260 and 25-06.
They all shoot great. I have no time to hunt so the 25-06 has to go to pay bills. Trigger is good, comes with Dies. E-mail if interested

I've been lusting after one of those, too. I also kinda like the 10FP Duty Rifle, since I like a heavy barrel, but would still like iron sights for back-up.

Hmmm, Savage is finally cataloging the 20" FP. Interesting how the FP is still listed under Varmint rifles & now there is the new "LE" section. www.savagearms.com I bought mine about 18months ago and think for the money it's hard to beat. I paid $389+TT&L At the time the dealer told me Savage would make a couple runs of the 20" guns a year. It balances nicley with the shorter barrel although it can get a little heavy toting around. The trigger can be lightened but I would recommend getting the SharpShooter trigger. It's about $90 and easy to install. Savage actually uses this trigger on the 12VSS from the factory now. The first one I saw was last year at the SunCoast show in Tampa. The seller wanted $375.00 for it N.I.B. but I didn't have enough cash left to buy it, so I went home. Later that week I asked around and no one knew anything about them.
I went to the next SunCoast show and the guy still had it on his table, bought it for $375.00 "out the door". I've dropped in a Sharp Shooter trigger but still haven't taken it to the range. If I like it I'll replace the stock with something more suitable, It does however seem seem to handle well. |

I bought mine about a year ago for $450 with a Choate UV stock. They can be found if you look.

www.Snipershide.com has a Savage accuracy project called the "Ghost Dancer", They are squeezing alot of accuracy out of the Savage Rifle system. Check it Out.

MR09, thanks for the e-mail, I didn't realize Savage had this new model coming out. The one I was referring to was an overrun of custom 20" 10FP's that made their way to the market 3 or 4 years ago. Looks like I won't have to worry about finding one now but will have to start saving some $$$.

I have one. Originally bought about 2.5 yrs ago. Then it was called a "Lew Horton" Special. It is in .223. The others are right, the trigger isn't all that great but I managed to lighten it to about 6 lbs and I am very comfortable with it.
I get 1" groups at 200+ yards. |

I notice that if you want anything other than .308, you will have to order the 110FP or 10FP with the 24 inch barrel from the Varmint section. That's okay, the longer barrel is just fine. |

Thanks for the input. I may try to build a "Poor man's" rifle. Does anyone know about BSA scopes with the mil-dot? I looked at a model MD416X40TS.

From most of what I've heard and read, BSA scopes aren't really a quality scope, with adjustment tracking problems, easily damaged, etc. A really good rifle like this would be just about worthless without a quality scope.

I got my 110FP about 5 years ago from Wal-Mart in Morristown, TN. Paid less than $400 and put a Cheap BSA scope on it and with hand loads 1/2" groups at 100 yards is no problem.
I picked up a 10FP in .308 about six months ago and put a Cheap BSA scope on it and so far with "not so refined" hand loads I am getting .700" groups at 100 yards. I plan to replace both scopes with the Tasco Target scope with a fine cross hair dot and feel that I might squeeze a bit more accuracy from the .308. But for the money, the BSA scopes have served as good stand by scopes to put on rifles just to be able to go shoot them quickly rather wait to afford a nice scope. My .223 has "Savage Tactical" etched on the bolt and is made on a long action. Now I see where the 110FP is long cals built on long actions and the 10FP is short action. When they first came out, such as mine, all were built on long actions and the mag well was blocked. For the money, nothing can touch em. |

Bowhntr6pt, I'm glad you're having good luck with the scopes; If and when I can get one of these rifles, I'm thinking about an SA scope for it. A lot of guys don't like SA scopes, either, but I had good luck with one on my AR, so it looks like we sort of have the same experience, but with different brands. What part of SC are you in, btw?

They're just more work! The rear action screw passes through the rear of the t'guard on the Rem model. I'm negotiating on a mutliple stock order for a SWAT team in a major Eastern city PD. While Walt told me he was going to concentrate only on the Savage unit, an order of this type will bring him out. Another pic of the Savage stock.
