First of all wash out the "STOPPING POWER" ideas from your head. Because if you use a .45 but cant hit anything with it, it is useless.
Plenty of people pushing up daisies from the effects of a well placed 9mm, or .22 for that matter. The GLOCK will be the best firearm for your price range. Find one that fits your hand and carry style. And if you get the chance, shoot it before you buy it.  PS. If you dont like the feel of the Glock try the Ruger line of pistols. They are a bit less expensive and are very reliable. |

I have to say that the G22, G23, G27 are all fine pistols. The G27 is the smallest and easiest to conceal. The G22 is the largest of the bunch but still very easy to conceal and it is very light weight. You can use the hi cap 22 mags in any of the other .40 cal Glocks. I personally have a 22 and a 27 and probably will get a 23 next. The only downfall in my opinion to the .40 is that the ammo is more money, but that is why I bought a G17 in 9mm so I can get more practice at the range for less money.

Glock 23, the compact 40, BUT that price sure doesn't include the costs of the hi cap mags at $ 100 ish a pop.
There are plently of guns that fit your criteria, but "high round capacity" is going to up the total final cost, of course. The beretta 92 is a fine gun also, and hi caps are cheaper and easier to find. It is not as concealable as other guns and is in the less fashionable 9mm, but it is worth considering if cost is a big consideration and you want the big mags |

The P99 is a little pricey and the hi-caps are costly as well ($400-500 range). The Walther P990 (DAO P99) would get into the price range, as would the Beretta 9000. Both available in either 9mm or .40. |

I bought a used Glock 30 for $425.00 almost 10,000 rounds ago. I probably need to replace the spring but it still functions perfectly and groups very well at fifty feet. I shoot anything I can get my hands on through it from forty year old mil surplus to Hydrashock +P.

Without question, the best value in a high-cap gun right now is a CZ-75B. They can be had new, with 1 high-cap and 1 ten round mag, for under $400. Factory high caps are ~ $35, and even the cheap (<$20) Pro Mags work correctly.
The guns have an excellent reputation, great ergonomics, can be carried DA or cocked and locked, and are known for their reliability. With a little shopping you can probably find one under $400 with a bunch of accessories. Check out the CZ Forums at pub69.ezboard.com/bczechpistols82792 |

Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911. Paid $449 for mine new at Sportsmans Warehouse. I couldnt be happier with it. I've been so impressed with accuracy and reliability that I use it for day to day carry.

Second the Mil-Spec 1911 from Springfield Armory.
My first handgun was a NIB Beretta 92FS for a bit over $500. Great gun, eats everything and I have not had any failures with it. I bought the Houge wrap-around grips to fatten it up a bit. They work great. Av. |

I bought my Glock 30 for $490 NIB. I've shot at least 5,000 rounds of all kinds of ammo through it and have never had a failure. You don't need to worry about it blowing up--it's a well made gun, and a helluva lot easier to conceal than a 1911. Don't get me wrong, 1911s are GREAT guns, but not optimial for concealed carry, IMO.

ditto, with the right ammo, the best carry gun in that price range for my money, hi-caps are a LOT easier to come by than the .45, 10mm and .40 glocks. and it will go BANG when you want it to. |

I would second the opinion on the Walther P99. There are lots of good guns listed here, but it comes down to comfort and size for me.
I just ordered a Walther P99 in the .40 cal. It is the Black frame with the Silver colored slide, and two preban 12rnd mags. I paid 530 for the gun, and an additional 95.00 bucks a pop for the preban mags. What is interesting, is that this gun was introduced in 1996... so how can you have preban mags? |

They use mags from some other gun that can use the same mag and change the base plates. See there is so much to be learned at handguns.ar15.com besides I think everyone else is getting tired of me responding 8 times to every post.

According to previous posts within the last week, we obviously know why glock is the #1 gun on AR15.com, cause its the only handgun that can reliably shot wolf ammo. And that's saying alot!!

For your $500 price cap you could get 2 Kel-Tec P11's, 9mm, they take any S&W 59 series Hi-Cap mags. And as for function, Guns & Ammo did a tourture test, 11,000 rounds of +P ammo in 2 weeks, and if memeory serves right less than 10 malfunctions. And as for conselabality, only 1"wide, 14.3 oz empty, i carry mine in a holster, with an extra mag in jeans and a T-shirt, and no one has noticed it yet(been carring it like this for 3 years) I would trust my life to it anyday.
I have a P40 also, but it always has a chambering problem with the last round, so i don't carry it for that reason, but if it wasn't for that, i'd be my weapon of choice. |

I too love my Glock, but I have been carrying my 92FS for the past year. It has never had a hiccup with anything including Wolf. That's not to inply it's not the dirtiest crap I've ever shot, just that the gun will take it.
When it comes to choosing 1 gun to carry, I don't worry about caliber as long as it's over 9mm. I always advise choosing the gun that feels the most comfortable and natural in hand and has a good reputation for reliability. For daily carry, I figure 16 rnds is plenty, wether that is in 1 Beretta hi cap or 2 Wilsons for the Kimber. As most firearms incidents involve less than half that, I usually feel pretty comfortable. For those times I feel a little more paranoid than usual, I will grab another mag. Basically, go with what you like and don't believe everything you hear. |

The Glock 23 is PERFECT for ya...
First: Caliber- A great compromise between the .45 and 9mm. Second: Size- Another great compromise- 14 rds of .40, plus a relatively slim, small package to conceal. Third- Price- meets your criteria, and cheaper than buying a G22 AND a G27, but with many good aspects of BOTH guns. Wonderful choice- safe shooting! |

Nope. It wasn't used at all. He was a dealer at a gunshow that decided to stop selling HK, and this was his last. And believe me...I know what to look for in USPs. This was the 4th that I've bought. If this one was used, he somehow put in a new bolt face, along with a new extractor, ejector, barrel, firing pin, etc. |

I love my Kel-Tec P11; there's no 9mm that's more concealable. I also love my Glock 19; it shoots like a dream. But yesterday, after years of drooling, I picked up a Walther P99 military (green) for $469. It's the same size as the G19 and only 1 ounce more, but it has a plethora of design features that are far superior, IMO. It even has the tenifer hardening treatment on the slide like the Glock.
Of course, the proof is in the shooting and that's coming up in a couple of days, but I have high hopes for this little wonder. I strongly recommend that you give it serious consideration. |

Good shooter, decent sights, not too heavy, came with a 15-round and 10-round mag.
$349. My only complaint, albeit minor, is that the mag slightly rubs the inside of the magwell and doesn't quite drop-free.  |

There was a time, about 3.5 years ago, when the HKs, compact & full size, were sold with one magazine, a lock, and a nice brown box. I saw them at a local gun shop, cheaper than at the local gun shows (which had the brown boxes too). Full size 9mm Stainless was about $480, and blue was about $419-$440. Full size .45 was $485, stainless was (a little more). |

You can find deals on various guns that fit this criteria. Prices will vary, depending on caliber, finish, style, model, coolness factor, reliability, new/used, clearance, sratch & dent, etc. You can easily find a NEW revolver in this price range, that will fit all but one of your criteria-- high round capacity. Do you think you will need 10+ rounds per magazine? If you want concealment, this will limit the number of rounds you can carry anyway, so a revolver may be your best bet. (Personally, I don't like revolvers.) Check out the S&W air-weights or scandium frames, and look into the Taurus models. If you want an auto-loader, just save up for an HK or a Kimber. You'd be surprised how quickly you can cut expenses to save the extra money. (i.e. if you eat out a lot, save the $1-$2 on the drink and order water.) |
