A person's military standing has virtually NO bearing on their legal standing as a firearms owner. Whe one goes to the gun shop to buy a gun they could care less if one is a MP or KP. >gg< |

You can purchase a Pre 86 transferable M16. That is if your state allows NFA items.
You will pay from $5000 on up for a M16. Being in the Military has nothing to do with it. medcop |

If I'm not mistaken the US forces dont use Glocks. I also believe that the only ones still using the 1911 45's are special forces. You'll probably end up with a beretta in 9mm. |

are you SURE you talked to a recruiter...as in a Military recruiter. i dont believe for an instant that a Staff NCO in the US Military told you Glocks are issue now. for a guy whose moniker is "Knowledge" you sure dont have any. now get off your mom's computer and go do your homework!
P.S. Some aviators, female MPs with small hands, and well connected officers recieve Sigs. if you want to be an MP its going to be berettas and sigs. |

Every military base I have been to lately the soldiers are packing M9 pistols and M16 rifles, never seen a Glock...

I just went thru MP AIT a few years ago (1999) and I am still an MP. You'll get a Beretta 9mm (otherwise known as the M9) if your unit maintains it it will be a good pistol. I have been in the Guard for this whole time, and have been deployed a lot (three times in the last year alone!) and I have never seen anyone with the Sig, which is the other pistol the Army authorizes and issues, known as the M11. MP's don't get any special privileges. In fact, unlike a civilian LEO, an MP only has law enforcement powers when he or she is on duty. Think of it like this, you only have LE powers when wearing the MP Bassard, but when you go off duty, the bassard comes off and you are just a regular soldier, you can't arrest anyone, boss sergeants around, nothing.

there was a small amount of glocks used in desert storm BUT! they were privatly purchased by the soldiers that used it i found that out in a issue of the amercian rifle man from way back. ill c if i can dig up the date i got it around here somewhere

Not sure how it is in other services, but in the Marine Corps all officers and NCO have the authority to arrest any service member, regardless of status of duty. All military members are technically on the job 24-7 and can arrest or be arrested for all violations of the UCMJ during anytime. The only with NCO or officers it is customary that you only arrest members of your grade or lower, however you can arrest above your grade if necessary. |

You cannot trust your recruiter..... Repeat after me "I cannot trust my recruiter" repeat this 500 times. Don't believe anything they tell you and the only thing that counts is what is written in your enlistment document(notice I didn't say contract) Nothing they say means a thing. So they will say anything necessary to get you to sign and swear in. Remember my words before they come back to haunt you. Now that I have said that, as long as you know this, then you can play on a more level playing field. If you play your cards right, you could make yourself a sweet deal. They have quotas they have to meet. You have the power to say no until you sign and swear. Good Luck dave I did 2 enlistments, so I am not bashing the service, just the recruitment practices |

You are correct, this still stands in the Army as well. I should have inculded that. Of course, as a Specialist (E-4) I don't carry lot of wieght without that MP Bassard on. |

The M9 and the Sig 226 blow away a Glock 17 anyway, so why would a soldier want a tupperware sidearm?
