I recently came across an old ceremonial rifle with some nasty chrome plating and much light surface rusting. Would like to restore, but need to remove plating first. Anyone know how?

The best way is to visit the local plating shop and have the parts stripped. tell them you want the parts stripped to bare metal, don't leave any copper or nickel plate behind. After stripping, the parts will need to be bead blasted, use glass beads, not sand.
