Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - building a 1911 from scratch.

I am not a gunsmith. Me and my roommatte however want to each buy a frame and slide for a 1911 and put them together piece by piece so we don't drop the bank accounts to nauseating levels. I do have firearm experience, but have never made a gun from scatch. Is it fairly simple? Also is it going to be way too much money in the end? And lastly, what are some semi-respectable companies that offer a frame and slide set?
