I know that a rifle has to have a 16inch barrel and overal length of 26inches with buttstock. But can u have a rifle with a 16inch barrel and overal length 26inches without a buttstock??

No. A rifle is defined as a shoulder fired weapon. The BATF requires it to have a stock. If it doesn't it's classed as an AOW. A shotgun can just have a pistol grip though...

whats an "AOW".so all rifles have to have buttstocks semiauto or not? ex lever actions

I was just getting a cup of coffee and was thinking of your question. The BATF ok's the sale of semi-auto M1919's and M-2's and these are without stocks so maybe I should disqualify my original statement and suggest you check with BATF.

A shotgun can just have a pistol grip though...


not if it is semi-auto

Shotguns:

Any semiautomatic shotgun manufactured after 9/13/94 that has at least two of the following features is a banned AW:

Folding or telescoping stock,lescoping stock,
Pistol grip which protrudes conspicuously below the action of the gun,
Fixed magazine capacity of more than 5 rounds,
The ability to accept a detachable magazine.
