A call for the return of the right to bear arms in Britain...amazing.

It’s an umbrella protection; the crooks know that they are playing Russian roulette trying to pick a house that is unarmed.

"If the state fails us, we must defend ourselves
By Simon Heffer
(Filed: 24/02/2002)
LAST Monday 82-year-old Violetta Vella was found dead in a pool of blood in her flat in Finsbury Park, north London.
She had been attacked in her own home, in broad daylight, and repeatedly stabbed in the neck...Two days after Mrs Vella was murdered,..
crime in London rose by 39 per cent last year...
The crime wave is being compounded by the complacency of politicians, by the bullying of the police into attitudes of craven political correctness, and by a creaking criminal justice system. Now we have reached a situation in which few can feel safe even in their homes, and this could be the breaking point……  Criminals  …….
……. have no regard for the property or even the lives of others. All of them are wicked. Many have their wickedness exacerbated by mind-altering chemicals. Above all, they engage in murderous, anarchic behaviour because they are confident the police will not catch them or, if they do, that they are highly unlikely to be condignly punished for their horrible crimes……………..
Given this scandalous situation, it is time for the Government to confer a new right on the people: the right to bear arms. Gun control in this country is in any case a joke. There is far more gun crime now than there was before the idiotic law passed by the Major government to ban handguns after the Dunblane massacre.
The police obsessively regulate shotguns and rifles held by sportsmen who have no intention of killing anyone with them, while failing utterly to control illegal weapons. In America, the two states with the highest level of gun ownership - New Hampshire and Vermont - have the lowest levels of crime.
One of the most murderous places in the United States, Washington DC, has the most rigorous gun control in the Union. For a householder to shoot a burglar in most states in the US is regarded not so much as permissible as part of his civic responsibilities.
There is, as a result, very little burglary in America. In this country, when a man shoots a burglar who is part of a gang with more than 100 previous convictions between them, it is he who goes to jail - for life, until Tony Martin's sentence was reduced on appeal……..

In any case, this is not about the criminal, but about protecting the victims. The point is not to have a retributive free-for-all, but rather to bring a real threat of deterrence. The principle of protection could be extended………
Ideally, the Government would give the police the resources and moral backing, and the courts the draconian powers, to stem these depravities. As it shows no signs of doing so, it must allow people to defend themselves.

If that means criminals getting killed or horribly injured, so be it. As the saying goes, they have a choice: their victims don't.

About f*ckin time. Now lets see if this goes anywhere in the coming year. Its in human nature to defend yourself and family from attack and No one will take the GOD Given right away from me. When guns are taken away from LAW ABIDING people in variuos areas these areas get overrun with criminals and undesirables. Its time to thin the herd. CAPITALIST

Good article, but don't look for things to change over there. FWIW I believe the farmer that shot 2 perps with his shotgun breaking and entering to rob/or worse him is still languishing in prison over there, all for defending himself and his property.

I am  really glad that the crooks don't know whether I do or don't have a gun!

CAPITALIST,

Make stickers that say "This house does not support guns!" and give it to peace-niks.
LOL! What you should do is make up some lawn stakes, you know the ones that usually say "Brinks", or "This House Protected by so and so". Instead have them say, "This house protected by PEACE; NO Guns Allowed!" hmmmm i wonder what will happen?

The Telegraph and Daily Mail are considered right-wing newpapers, and therefore (delivered in a snooty tone and haughty air) "not worthy of the decision-making elite's consideration". Couple that with the average Briton's morbid fear of guns, as well as the fact that since 1954 it has been illegal to use any sort of deadly force to defend onself. We in the worldwide RKBA community have a better chance of repealing or letting sunset the US AW law in 2004 than getting the UK to believe in a grass-roots RKBA. Arms in the UK have always been the province of those rich enough (first, lords of manors, now: pretty much only the police and army) to afford them and all the BS that the gov't over there flings at its subjects.

Notice, I did not call them citizenry.....

They just woke up to gun control?  Maybe someday soon they will also realize they no longer have an empire or a navy.

This MUST be a mistake.

I believe, and predict, that gun control will take, and is taking, the same course that socialism and communism is and has taken.   Like socialism and communism, you can argue that, on paper, it SOUNDS good (Well, to some people, anyway) but when you actually adopt it as policy, it proves itself to be hopelessly out of touch with reality, and eventually it collapses to be replaced with freedom and personal responsibility.

The Berlin Wall of gun control will be fall.  The dictator Nikolai Czauczescu (I MAY be spelling that right) of gun control will be publicly executed along with his collaborating wife.

It will happen.  The nightmares of communism/socialism have all but passed, and so will gun control.

Personally, I'd rather be an armed Communist than an unarmed Capitalist!
