So, it looks like I'm leaning towards the NODAKSPUD/US Anodizing XM Grey.

Thanks for the overwhelming contributions btw

That looks to be a good pick of the color. Don't feel bad about getting replies, I rarely get advice when I post.

Looks very close to the issue colts I used back in the day (late 70's-early 80's).  Also, guys used to coat it with "Kal Guard" spray coating, which was a dead ringer for the early colt stuff.  Contact "KG Gunkote" (the current company) and ask for their early legacy coatings.  I used it to build a couple of "personally owned firearms" myself.  It was a nice charcoal grey color, that coated all your different gun show parts and made it look like a factory colt, which is sorta the same thing you guys are doing.  If I'm not mistaken I think they still make some "original formula" stuff.  Just make sure and ask them for the stuff they made for the "Teams".

Gotta laugh, used to keep my "CAR-15" in a spare bbl bag like that too.

If you really want to go the full monty, take a piece of 1" od tubular nylon and make a 2-pt sling.  Loop front through FSB, and rear through buttstock slot.  We used velcro to mate and then wrapped with OD duct tape.  Make it just long enough to loop around your neck.  AKA "jungle" sling.  You can patrol with like that (versus using front sling swivel) and it didn't make any noise (unlike GI sling un-taped).

It's so tiny.

What's a good source for the waffle mags?

So here she is. Not the exact color I was looking for, and almost too grey if you know what I mean. Unfortunately they're really isn't a good color code for the grey I'm looking for.

And here is my retro ?SOPMOD Block 0 version. The only finish this will get is being dragged thru the dirt.
