I've been traveling to events with night vision a lot more this year.  I always pack the RNVG's and helmet in my carryon for security since they're worth more than the rifle and associated gear that has to be checked.  I'd like to protect them a bit better than just stuffing the carrying case inside the helmet and throwing it in the bag.  Current setup is the aforementioned RNVG, bump helmet with mounted ears (which aren't very low profile), strobe, battery pack, and usually the G24 mount.  I've seen some nice bags, and asked about them on occasion, but I've forgotten brands and models.  What's everyone using to protect their investments?

Yeah add a plastic shield to the Rhino and say it’s your protective mask.

Would be likely to open up some seats around you too

I don't think the maker has a website just yet, but I know his new company Instagram is nn_concepts

Try hitting him up there.  He's even got a new version that will securely hold COTI in the works.

I used to just wrap my sentinels into a schmagh, and throw them into my helmet or backpack, but now I throw them into a nod nest, and then into my helmet.

It's actually a killer idea, I poo-poo'd it until I saw a good picture showing how it works.

Here's my wife's setup for her PVS-7, although, as much as she uses it, it might as well be my wife's and 4-year-old daughter's:

Here's my setup:

And here's one of them together:

I bought mine from the guy who made 'em, but apparently now they're being sold through Night Vision Inc, who also happens to be a cola warrior sponsor. https://nvincorporated.com/product/nvi-nodnest/

Probably going to jump on the nods nest, but is there anything else I should consider before I do?

I use a Tactical Tailor PVS14 padded pouch I got from Ebay, which fits perfectly into my helmet, use the chin strap through a grimlock attached to the TT pouch, fold my comtachs into the helmet and throw the assembly into a padded bag, beavertail backpack or padded helmet bag.

I check my helmet then just throw the binos & L4G24 in a small Pelican case and put it in a backpack that I carry on.

I'm guessing that x ray's won't hurt the nightvision devices.

It's worth every penny of it, if you move your nods around a lot.

Im actually an expert in the traveling field. Since Ive been doing it for a living for decades.

No the X-ray in this country will not hurt them. I would remove the batteries from them and call it good. I would do this simply if they get idiot inspected. I would also pack police and tactical gear to be non visible. This is recommended by your agency and/or you department in most cases. If your're civi pretending to be a door kicker then yes by all means armor up and come aboard.

SAM splints make great gear protectors.  They can be molded to the shape you want, and cut to size.  Get some plasticdip for any sharps/roughs.  You should have seen the junk we had to deal with when digital cameras were first introduced to send pics over satcom.

Seriously dude? You’re rocking a NVG set that costs many thousands and you’re fretting over $150 to protect it? Even I’m not THAT cheap!

Thanks.  Just ordered one.

I like the NOD nest. I use a NOD garage (got a going out of business version) and stuff it into my helmet which goes into my SKD helmet bag.

I’ve never flown with it though.
