Got in on this deal as well. Also picked up the TOR-MINI IR and hopefully that is not on back-order too long! Should be a good start to night vision before going binos in the future.

Yea great prices. Those xls tubes are pretty sweet. Some of them have great specs.

Ya'll need to leave their website alone till after I get my order in....its bogged down.
You may now proceed. |

thanks for all the info and the link. thought this was supposed to be released tomorrow.
and yall broke their site. found it. site still hammered. wonder if they will do a bino set with these. eta THEY DO. https://tnvc.com/shop/ngi-rnvg-xls-gen-3-thin-filmed-white-phosphor-ruggedized-binocular-nvg-elbit-usa-tube/ Damn I would totally buy that if I was single or wanted to be single again. |

What's the current poop on mounting these on an AR15? Will recoil damage them prematurely?
Or is helmet/skull-cap mounting the only way to go? |

So from my basic understanding on this offering. The tubes range from great specs to ehh. Even on the lower end though, would you all pick this over a green PVS14 of TNVCs regular offerings? Seems like this will be a hard one to pass up!

Any comment from TNVC on the specs they’re generally seeing on these tubes?

View Quote They XLS will be better in the extreme dark, the average snr specs on the echos should be higher, but the xls could be much higher. So its a coin toss, if you get a good xls tube it will be much better over all, even if it is not a great tube it will see in the dark better which will equalize it somewhat. It all depends what you want to do with it. |

View Quote I tend to prefer Bump helmets like the Ops-Core Bump because they're easier to don/doff and are more stable. I live in Coastal South Carolina and to me the Night Cap doesn't offer much advantage over a ventilated bump in terms of being cool on the head--honestly in the summer, if I'm going to be out for a while, I wear a skull cap (durag) under my helmet anyways to soak up sweat, and I find that that helps more with fogging and sweat than anything else, but I came up wearing ballistics in the dead of summer in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia backwoods. The Night Cap was designed for and is good for, IMHO, extremely covert work, where you can shove it in a cargo pocket or backpack without attracting much notice--which nowadays means going on vacation with the wife when she prohibits me from bringing a helmet. I'm not a big fan of the auto-off arm, because I actually don't like the dogleg shape, I prefer the increased eye relief of the straight arm, and because the auto on/off function of the PVS-14 has frankly just never been that reliable, which means that the auto on/off arm isn't that reliable either--not through any failure of the arm itself, but just the general unreliability of the function to which it connects. ~Augee |

Even on the lower end though, would you all pick this over a green PVS14 of TNVCs regular offerings? Seems like this will be a hard one to pass up! Honestly just depends on what you want--as I mentioned in the other specs, yes, the contract minimums could be described as "ehh," but then again, both the price and performance is competitive with most used Gen. 3 PVS-14s, but new with warranty, in WP, so IMHO, they're still a good deal. However, there's a high potential that you will exceed those specs by pretty wide margins and get a screaming deal. As for whether to pick these over the TNVC thin-filmed green offerings? FWIW, we didn't even bother offering the Night Goggles XLS systems in green because commercial sales for GP are pretty slow at this point. The thin-filmed GP is mostly popular with LE agencies that want/need MIL-SPEC systems to outfit an entire team or even department and have a certain budget at which they want to do it at. The TNV/PVS-14s in MIL-SPEC GP offer that capability at a better price-point than other MIL-SPEC WP options. However, for hunters and civilian enthusiasts who want a WP option and are comfortable with a COM-SPEC unit, we have these Night Goggles XLS systems. Honestly, between the two, if I were buying for myself, I would probably go with a Night Goggles XLS system because I've been WP spoilt, but you really can't go wrong with either! Quoted: Any comment from TNVC on the specs they’re generally seeing on these tubes? So, same policy as usual on discussing "typical" tube specs. We prefer not to discuss "typicals" because there's a certain contract spec--yes, most of the tubes exceed those minimum specs, and many by a very wide margin. However, in the interests of full transparency and disclosure, we're not going to cherry pick or dissemble about what the potential minimums could be (and anyways, they'll be plain for all to see when they get their factory data records with their units). Also, remember that each of those minimums should be viewed in isolation--minimum tube specs don't necessarily mean that you're likely to ever get a tube with every spec at the minimum, yes, it's theoretically possible, however it's statistically unlikely--those minimum specs are individual tolerances for each spec, and any one of them could be the reason for failing MIL-SPECs, or the specs (some microscopic or virtually unnoticeable, like an 11769/9415 with a slightly out of tolerance center image shift, which is not a big deal on a PVS-14, only if you're trying to collimate a binocular device with a pair of these tubes--all of the Night Goggles binocular systems are collimated according to MIL-SPEC tolerances) that disqualify them from MIL-SPECs might not even be among the ones listed on the spec sheet. Quoted: So how do the NGI/PVS-14-XLS GEN. 3 THIN-FILMED WHITE PHOSPHOR MNVD (ELBIT USA TUBE) compare to the the 4G ECHO High Performance Gen 2 White pvs-14 that i ordeded on 3/31 and shipped yesterday from tvnc ? Ultimately the NGI/PVS-14 Photonis ECHO units tend to be a little bit more consistent in their specs--the ECHOs will generally not perform as well in extremely low light conditions as Gen. 3, but again, for hunters and civilian enthusiasts they are more than capable image intensifiers and devices. ~Augee |

Sorry guys, I don’t see all of the hype.
Nods isn’t a cheap sport. After IR laser, illum, helmet, etc., you’ve got lots of more money to spend. Not considering that you’ll need to get a can eventually (like most people who actually shoot at night). All of this to say - save $500-$800 or spend $3,200 for a mil spec unit is a no brainer to me. But I understand people have different budgets or concerns so hopefully this helps some people out. |

If I do the bino version is it possible to split them into individuals later? I see people say that a monocular is the way to go as your eyes adapt yadda yadda, but then when guys show their rigs I see an abundance of binos. So is a monocular the best setup or is a bino. There's a few options out there for buckets. OpsCore bump (or carbon if you're balling), Team Wendy bump (their helmets are still very well designed and made if you don't care about politics), MTEK FLUX carbon, or you could get an airsoft helmet like a PTS MTEK FLUX and replace all the stuff with real kit (shroud, rails, pads, chinstrap, etc). You may or may not also need a counterweight (some people don't, I personally do). So what else do I need with this unit?
I need a helmet or bump cap, and it comes with a j arm. Does the j arm mount it to the helmet or is there something between? Then I'll get a sacrifical lens for objective and a Butler Creek 9A. Guess I'll wait to see how it feels before looking into counterweight. |

you will need a mount/arm that goes between the helmet mounting shroud and the J arm you mentioned. You can go USGI with the Norotos USGI Rhino mount arm, Rhino 2 arm, or similar. The Norotos units can be found in a used/surplus condition for pretty cheap on ebay or here on the equipment exchange.
Or, you could start out simple and buy yourself a "skull crusher" to get yourself going on the cheap for only around $35 This will allow you to test out the device and get familiar with it before buying a helmet and all the mounting hardware. I also keep "skull crushers" around for backup equipment as well. |
