Just curious what you've mounted to your helmet as far as illumination goes (IR or otherwise)

Surefire V1 IR/White on my left side on an Echo Arms mount and a Red/White Princeton Tec MLPS on my right for admin and closeup.

Helmet 1: X300V & Princtontec Switch IR/white
Helmet 2: Inforce WML IR (1 cell) and Princtontec Switch IR/white The X300V is a great helmet light with decent range. The WML IR has a great flood and 2 settings high/low in both spectrums and is my go to for hiking. The low setting is perfect in the woods. |

Surefire M1 and on the lookout for a small white / Ir combo light. Suggestions gladly accepted.

X300V on a Thyrm VariArc mount. Rotates to give you umbrella, forward and task lighting in WL and IR.

This thread definitely gave me an idea for my X300V... I don't run it on any of my guns, now I have a use for it.

My biggest issue has remembering to turn it off. I probably need to try a different light, I've become... Less than impressed with the 500 lumen m300 in general. Weapon or head mounted. I have an m300v I might use as well. The UTM is great if you're indoors or in confined areas and need task lighting. I would think being outdoors a forward looking light would probably benefit most people more. I only got it a few weeks ago and I'm still ringing it out. |

I’ve started using the wml as a helmet light. Mostly because it’s easier to switch from white to Ir vs the surefire. It’s just a flip of a switch vs pulling the bezel out and turning on the surefire.

I mostly use some combination of a Surefire Vampire (V1/M300V/X300V) on various mounts as a spot light with some variation of a Princeton Tec (MPLS Charge/Charge-PRO/Switch) as an admin light (I probably have more helmets that I curate than most ). I do not notice a hugely significant difference in capabilities in practical terms between these setups, though obviously they all have their advantages and disadvantages in different ways. ~Augee |

The high setting is very impressive for how small it is and the 2032 lasts a long time. It works great as a short range IR navigation light. I was pretty unimpressed with the IR on the Charge (AA) but the vis settings are better than the Switch. Is there any difference in output between the AA and 123 Pro? |

View Quote Honestly I rarely use the IR on any of the PT units as I usually have a Surefire Vampire (or on one old bucket an old Inforce), 90% of the way I use the PT lights is as a low powered VIS admin light, usually red. I generally try to avoid using too much active IR for navigation, it's more of an active search tool. That being said, even in pretty dense marsh/forest the spot is usually simply easier and more user-friendly, it's only in extremely limited conditions where it is too intense because of close obstructions that makes a low-powered nav LED (whether the device onboard illuminator or PT) necessary in which case high output is the exact opposite of what I want. ~Augee |

Have you tried it? Might be a good all in one unit. |

View Quote It does, but it doesn't end up making much of a difference to me. My helmet-mounted V1 is functionally identical to the M300V in my use (they're both in S&S M-AX mounts). It's simply easier, IMHO, to have the one be the "high power" spot light, and have one be the "admin/nav/task" light, and the Princeton Tec lights are fairly cheap as far as NV accessories go, and at least on ARC rails are pretty easy to throw on. ~Augee |

Does the mount move when you try to change the bezel settings? I originally was going to buy a M-AX mount, but was worried about having to use 2 hands when switching the bezel on the V1 from white to IR and back. I received some feedback that the ball mount isn't that strong, and end users prefer the fixed S&S mount, but obviously are losing the adjustment flexibility of the M-AX. |

View Quote It does move a little--you can also adjust the tension on the M-AX, but if you adjust it so tight that it doesn't move when being switched between IR/WL then it will also be hard to swivel when you need it, and they will loosen over time regardless. I have both fixed mounts and swiveling mounts on various helmets and there are advantages and disadvantages to both, some end users prefer one over the other, but both fixed and swiveling mounts are pretty common in end user communities from what I have seen. For me, switching the helmet-mounted spot light over to WL is pretty much an admin task, so two hands and/or a little bit of movement is not really a big deal to me, again, this is where the whole "system" comes in to play. There's really no reason that I need to switch my helmet light over between IR and WL "on the fly," I check that it's set the way I want it during my load and make ready process to verify that it will do what I need it to, which may be IR or WL depending on the situation, if I need either spectrum on-demand immediately, I have other devices including WMLs and the MFAL/LAM. If I need dim light for admin tasks, then I can use the PT, which switches spectrum much easier. A "common" use-case would be switching over to WL from IR for SSE, in which case again, it's somewhat of an admin situation, at least enough so that I can afford to switch over even if it does cause the mount to move a little bit. ~Augee |

For mil/le guys, have you noticed the x300 reflecting light off the reflector in the day or day night when theres illumination present? Ie, you're in a lit area and the x300 is in the dark looking towards you?

This is a cool video and looking forward to when the mount is available he’s using (looks like an Echo Arms that swivels).
