And in the meantime if anyone wants to make the drive over to Pittsburgh, we have another shoot at 4pm on Dec 28. Not so much running and gunning or creeping through the woods, but we run a couple drills for safety and familiarization and bring plenty of toys to check out and compare. It’s a pretty straightforward gun club range with 300yd.

As I see more groups forming since I started this or at least the desire the default format from them seems to be run and gun and I believe that to be totally wrong to support the gear and technology. Maybe that's all they know and do when they go to the range. Isn't night vision about stealth? I know I am typing to myself and no one is listening but I guess I have different ideas on what or how I want my personal NV training to go especially after taking numerous classes from the dudes that actually know and have used the technology while in the shit. Aiming for either end of February or beginning of March to try and catch that last hour of darkness before the time change but still need to keep an eye on the weather. View Quote |

A little bump for the New Year.
Hope Santa was good to each on you. |

Does anyone know what make/model that really powerful standalone illuminator that someone brought? I think it may have been one of the PA guys. I seem to remember it being fairly inexpensive and focusable, but I don't remember exactly.

If anyone gets something put together in Ohio LMK. I'm in Cincinnati so PA is probably too far of a drive but I could do Cleveland.
Also, TNVC offers a training course in Alliance, OH, I enjoyed it and learned a lot. |

Sorry to cheat off the OH thread, but the Pgh shoot dates for the next couple months are:
Let me know if anyone is coming out - would be nice to keep connecting faces with names. |

I would assume that’s fairly easy to understand. They’re inviting strangers from the internet to a private club to run (ok maybe jog) around with loading rifles in the dark. There’s a waiver and an intro drill done together for familiarization and warmup. |

In fact that's it, I will be reaching out to Dan to schedule and set up some rules for such an epic event to happen this fall. Guys in all seriousness if you can get with the PA guys at Rosedale do it. I attended the last shoot and everyone was safe, professional and welcoming. Their program is growing and becoming much more dynamic. Dan who is hosting and making it happen is a TNVC Nightfighter grad and knows what he is doing and is well supported by JW and a few others. The club is two hours from me in Akron and well worth the drive. Remember this is shooting with NODs and there just are not that many options. You made the investment in the gear so take advantage and stop looking at the stars!

Its way to early at this point to commit to the range especially with NE Ohio weather but thoughts are to try and get in an event before the time change.
Looking at Saturday, February 29th so try to plan accordingly for now. |

Confirmed. We will be going Dark again on Saturday, February 29th.
email with details to those who are on the list to follow. If interested and you haven't reached out yet email me at [email protected] |

Unfortunately I won't be able to make that one but I am looking at signing up for the TNVC Night Fighter 101 class on March 14th-15th. Anyone else planning on taking that? View Quote |

Just signed up. You coming? View Quote 2/22 and 3/7 are the last two night shoots here in PGH that I'll definitely be out at. I'm pretty sure they'll be taking the spring/summer off for the longer days and more scheduled events at that range, so it may be Sep/Oct before they kick off again. |

Might be a little chilly but planning to do a little NVG work this Saturday, February 29th.
I know that many of you have new gear to sort out so plan to put it through its paces. If you available to attend and haven't before email me at [email protected] for details. |

Another great evening out in OH with the gents.
Here's a few screengrabs from the video recorder I had mounted on my binos - Here's an illustration of the view when trying to shoot through a porthole normally versus by looking through a different hole than the muzzle - lasers make it easy! @crossgun had quite a few different shooting areas set up that we got to use - ETA: full gallery is available here |

Looks like a ton of fun! I'll make it out there sooner or later, but had other obligations this weekend.

Awesome pics jw
I was really debating not going but with the time change just around the corner I'm glad I did! |

No snow!!?? My wife said we got hit with 6" a day or two before, when I called back to MI. Maaaaaan I wish I was there again. Good gallery JW. Nice work (as usual) crossgun

Any idea when the next shoot in Ohio may be? I'd love to get a chance to try out some gear I ordered if it arrives in time. It's difficult to find a place that offers night shooting.

As of now looking at some dates and should have some details soon.
To be honest with all Im not sure of the direction this might take this fall. We have a pretty squared away group of guys currently and that allows us to move very efficient throughout the night while up against a STOP shooting time. The current venue is dynamic and that demands dialed in dudes who know and truly understand their kit. One so called newbie or someone that just got gear can bring that to a slow roll or halt. Also there is class size and how that effects all attendees. It might be time for a basic or beginner session so guys can get qualified and vetted. We have seen the results of owning the gear and showing up with no understanding of how it works as well as different skill levels and training backgrounds. First to be clear this is not square range make ready run and gun type stuff under NODs! IMO there is no learning value in that or practical application plus it just takes forever while most stand around waiting and watching. We did something like that last time out and the juice wasn't worth the squeeze even though some guys were asking for that. These outing are more about realistic applications and trying to show you what you dont know as well as the limitations of the technology and where it might fall off for you. For those truly interested there is a process and questionnaire that must be filled out. All you need to do is IM me and I can get that to you. Once completed and vetted you will be added to the group email list. To the core group, I'm working on some new things. Don't hesitate either to let me know what you might like to see more of or less of and share with the viewers here what you have gotten from attending. With the cost and shortage of ammo currently we need to make each and every shot more purposeful. |
