Who here has the highest spec tube(s)? Kind of curious how good of specs one can really have.

I've heard of some crazy "unicorn" tubes with 3200+ FOM and some with over 100 lp/mm resolution! BUT this is just 2nd and 3nd hand information so it's nothing I've witnessed personally.

So anyone here with a super tube?? Post up your specs if so!

That's incredible! What would you say is the biggest real world difference in the field when using those vs your standard L3 WP with good specs?

I had a chat with he and Sam a while back about some of those super tubes.

I partially think some or even a lot of it is up to the individual and how his eyes are wired.

Some people seem to not notice differences in tubes no matter what the spec. Some people swear they perceive the tiniest resolution difference.

As per the question. My two tubes are 64 and 66 lpmm and iirc 31.5 and 32.3 snr

And usually I’m the type of guys who’s eyes are not sensitive but I can tell a small difference in my two tubes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m 100% happy.

I have a -14 with 2600+ FOM. I don't have a lot to compare it to, but it's good.

On an L3 spec sheet, what metrics are you guys referencing? Or is it some other type of measure.

I have some filmless WP L3 tubes in a binocular and one has a signal to noise ratio of 36 and change. Thought that was pretty spiffy.

Civy 2600+ FOM from TNVC.  Nice unit

Mines not the best but I think it's awesome for what I paid for it.  Blem filmless from N-Vision Optics with 72 lpmm and 33.8 SNR, 2433 FOM.  Tiny blem at the outer edge of zone 2.

I dont have the highest spec unit, but I will give my .02

33.7 SNR, 72 LP, EBI .8, HALO .7, no blems

Compared to Omni 4-7 tubes I have tried I'd say the ability to read license plates due to a combination of autogating, low halo, and high resolution is one of the biggest differences. The others lacked clarity of the dark numerals or the whole plate bloomed out from reflected light. Also, there is a distinct reduction in laser dot bloom with mine. Compared to units with halo over 2.0 its a massive improvement.

Even at 72 lp, I feel I could see and use more resolution if I could get it, but not much more. I use mine over my left eye, which was laser corrected to 20/20.

The only time I could use any more SNR is indoors or under a forest canopy, not out in the open on 99% of nights.

I could only use less EBI when I use something that restricts the light coming in like my daylight filter or Matbock Tarsier. I dont use mine for astronomy.

Even less halo would be better, though I dont know what real world ability it would offer me.

I could never justify buying a non autogated tube from the used market. Manual gain on the other hand is just nice to have but I could live without it.

No blems is nice but a blem in zone 3 wouldn't bother me much at all. A blem in zone 2 would be annoying. A blem in zone 1 and I'd not even consider it.

I think if you could get more and more SNR with lower and lower halo and EBI, the best use would be to cut down your objective aperature size to give better depth of field so you never have to use the focus.

People don't think the deep forest swamp be dark, but it do ;)

Damn, some of you guys are rockin' some high performers.  I thought my 2,200's were good, but 3,000?

I also have some super tubes, but they don't hit that 3000 FOM barrier. Sam is right - in most conditions, they make absolutely no difference aside from having bragging rights that nobody else can really observe, either. LOL
In most conditions where the higher FOM can help you out, you're seeing the difference between an indistinguishable shape and another indistinguishable shape mixed in with lots of scintillation. lol.

Splashing in some IR light is a much better solution. :)

except when you dont want to be seen by others who may be wearing nods too.

Thats also why I keep the IR glint tape on my helmet covered with velcro.

I've got some OMNI IV blem tubes in my Sentinels.

Still kill football sized shit on the regular. Like Sam says, illumination levels the field.
