I'll admit, I'm not the most adept user of night vision, but I'm familiar with the magnetic auto-off switch on the J arm for the PVS-14.  Typically, this shuts the unit off when it's flipped upwards and away from the eye.

Last night, my PVS-14 shut off when I bent and turned my head to the side, to look under my deck.  In other words, the unit was not FLIPPED from horizontal to vertical, it was ROTATED on its horizontal axis.

Is that normal?  If so, that sounds like a terrible design to me.  Any time I cock my head more than 90 deg right or left, the unit shuts off.

Many people remove the magnet on there mounts to disable this auto shut off feature because it is spotty and tends to be unreliable. Much safer to manually turn it on or off then risk it auto turning off on its own.
