For the last 2 months, we have been working close with B.E. Meyers and testing their new variant of the MAWL - CLASS 1(PLUS). To say that we have been impressed is an understatement. It's now available! Link to our Industry Page for ordering
The B.E. Meyers MAWL-C1+ represents a true paradigm shift in laser system design. It is a full featured infrared and visible green aiming and illumination laser for individual carbines. Offering improved ergonomics, interface, and performance, the MAWL was designed from the ground up around the evolved needs of the warfighter. The original MAWL-DA is a ground-breaking laser system. Now, it is being made available for individual purchase in the form of the MAWL-C1+. The MAWL-C1+ breaks as much ground in performance as the physical form does in function. Class 1+ is a new category in eye-safe laser capability. Standard Class 1 invented the eye-safe IR laser category. Class 1+ perfects it. B.E. Meyers' engineers have developed a laser system that seriously outperforms competitive units while still abiding by FDA variance. The MAWL-C1+ addresses the use of space and ergonomic shortcomings of lasers on short carbines like the SOCOM Mk18, it mounts offset from the rail to minimize impact on hand position and optic field of view. This revolutionary design leaves the shooter completely unimpeded by mounting mission essential accessories. The offset placement of the laser body allows the onboard fire buttons to be located directly over the rail clamp. This lower profile creates much easier access to the controls, allowing the operator to keep their same firing grip while actuating the laser. Regardless, the MAWL-C1+ is completely ambidextrous. This is achieved through a never-before-seen modular design that allows the head and tail to separate from the body, trade places, and be reassembled on the opposite side. Controls are incredibly intuitive. Output modes are switched by rotating the front bezel to expose the appropriate emitter. OFF = all emitters covered. VIS = Only Visible Green emitter exposed. IR = Only IR Laser Pointer and IR Laser Illuminator emitters exposed. Onboard controls include two “fire” buttons. The forward button is “IMMEDIATE,” while the rear button is “ADMIN.” The Immediate Action button controls the 90% use case outputs per mode. The Admin button activates the other, less critical tertiary functions per mode. The beams are pre focused tooptimal FOV and power at various power outputs. Output power control is accomplished with a top-mounted tactile sliding switch. The switch output mode is easy to determine through feel and has three positions. This means there is no fumbling through complex dial adjustments around the clock in the dark. Everything is rapid and effortless! Modes are as follows: SHORT RANGE IR Optimized for room engagements and building interiors, Short Range mode offers smooth, room-filling illumination with no discernible speckling or edges and no excessive bloom. The admin function activates a low energy IR Illuminator with no pointer for navigating extremely dark areas without discharging an extra IR light. The IR aiming laser stays at 0.7mW so to not bloom out targets. MID RANGE IR Mid-Range mode excels at urban building movement and is appropriate for alleyways, streets, building exteriors, and rooftops. Mid-Range offers dual illuminator and a pointer; a mid-range wide angle flood with a tight hot spot for punching out further distances. Admin function redistributes the illuminator outputs to optimize longer range illumination without switching into Long Range mode. LONG RANGE IR Long Range mode essentially mimics the performance of the Mid Range mode in the C1+ model.SHORT & MID RANGE GREEN VISIBLE Short Range Visible allows the user to fire a smooth green laser beam at either 1 or 5mW. Mid Range is 5mW with both fire buttons. LONG RANGE GREEN VISIBLE Long Range in visible mode offers a steady 5mW or 6Hz Pulse at 5mW depending on the fire button that is used. The MAWL-C1+ is unlike any other laser product on the market. Its intuitive, ease of use layout makes it one of the most user friendly lasers available to the law enforcement professional or civilian user. Yes, it's expensive. But, the MAWL-C1+ is in a class of its own. Nothing else compares. Available Now! |

I'll get excited when there is a civi version and it's not a ton of money.
Does look awesome though. |

Looks good. No telling what the price will be, not that it matters since a bunch of unelected bureaucrats at FDA have decreed that you must be one of the king's men to have one.

I'm trying to understand if you are running 3 functions (including visible light) all from the TAPS, still using the MAWL on-board buttons for some functions, using a separate switch for a light, etc.
I think TAPS is cool, but I personally don't like wires--they can fail, they can snag, and they are ugly and look messy. I am imagining the MAWL with a WML at 12:00... Seems like it would be pretty close to perfect as long as you aren't trying to include a visible laser. |

Enough with the dick tease... What's the long shot of a civ version ever coming out?

Enough with the dick tease... What's the long shot of a civ version ever coming out? View Quote Ok, so take this for what it is, but.... I was listening to a livestream the other day & a former action guy happened to mention that he had a MAWL inbound. No big deal I thought, then he mentioned that he was pretty sure that it was going to be the civ version... I'm much more interested. He also mentioned that he believed that the illuminator on it was going to be something a bit better than we are all used to on civ model LAMs & he's highly critical of all the current civ LAM's illumintors. The other mention was of price... now he specifically said to not quote him, but the number was around $2500-2600 bones. So the take away seems to be, the civ model is at least on their radar, the illuminator might be something special & its gonna cost us, whenever it drops Frankly, I'm just glad & even a bit surprised that the civ model is even being considered. A lot of B.E. Meyers stuff is the super duper restricted level lasers & really a lot of this stuff is never R&D'd with the intention of the civilian market. If the companies get around to it, we are all happy, but their main customer has been & always be the .mil. |

I know this is all conjecture. I'm assuming this is accurate. |

I could believe $2,500. I don't think there's anything that remotely compares, restricted or not. It may not be worth it for hunting, but it's in a league of its own for tactical applications. View Quote I should have been more clear. I would believe $2500 too. I just wouldn't pay that much since I doubt, for my use, it would justify the cost increases over say a d2. If it turns out to be in the ballpark of other high end civi units then I'll try it. |

I'm not talking shit. Just thinking out loud. I wish I could but for how much I'd use this I just can't justify that kind of coin. My uncle will sell me his dbal d2 for $1000 and I'm having a hard time justifying that. |

A quote from Matt Meyers describing a few tidbits of the technology of the MAWL-C1+
Class 1 Plus™ = Irradiance on Target The power balance of infrared illumination and pointing irradiance at different ranges becomes critical as commercial night vision quality continually increases, which is why MAWL-C1+ brings settings specific for close range to long range target engagement. By utilizing a uniquely arrayed laser core, the MAWL-C1+ is able to incorporate a laser illuminator capable of outperforming other civilian legal laser systems on the market, and also outperforms many restricted devices. This provides the user with a distinctive and functional near infrared illuminator with unrivaled irradiance on target, allowing for positive identification of objects, the ability to surpass many photonic barriers, as well as faster target acquisition either on the range or in the field. On top of this, the visible green laser pointer in the MAWL-C1+ has selectable low-power settings for close range boresight precision that is also slaved to the near infrared pointers. Once the user has zeroed the visible green laser, the infrared lasers are also automatically zeroed, getting you into the field faster at night. By featuring centralized, co-aligned emitters, the MAWL ensures that all beams are simultaneously on target, regardless of distance. Class 1 Plus™ = Beam Clarity Our beam is our brand, and the incredibly smooth illumination quality of the MAWL-C1+ is the same as in the standard MAWL-DA, eliminating the distracting artifacts (a.k.a. greasy fingerprint spots) that many civilian and restricted laser devices possess. Not only does this clean energy performance improve your illumination of the target area, it makes low Figure-of-Merit (FOM) night vision devices look better by providing increased ambient and directional near infrared illumination. Use What You Already Own The MAWL is designed to be the best laser on the market, and works with and compliments a variety of other high-end systems. The MAWL-C1+ is designed to work with all MIL-STD/NSWC Crane Laser Lead remotes, which include the Unity Tactical/TNVC TAPS™ and TAPS Pro™ series remote cables, the SureFire SR07-D-IT, as well as L3 and Steiner remote activation cables. In addition to this, the MAWL series are designed to work in parallel with the SureFire M300 Mini-Scout Light® to maximize rail space efficiency. |

1 year and thank you, need to get that added on the web site. Chip was up at the wee hours this AM, so let's blame him! View Quote Considering the design and similar warranty of competing products, do you know if BE Meyers will offer replacement parts (in the future) should a person break something? It's pretty pricey, but I think it would sway some consumers if they knew that should something break outside of the warranty period, end user level repair (parts replacement) can be done without spending a load of money (for a new unit) or sending the device in to the factory. |

View Quote This laser is here to stay as most of the DBAL's and ATPIAL's out there. (Mill/LE version MAWL-DA parts are the same as well). Replacement parts have always been readily available. The real risk to users are buying those "restricted" units you see sometime falling off the back of trucks and come up for sale...If those ever go down, you definitely have an expensive paperweight with no recourse. Just got 2 phone calls today (we get these calls weekly) for advice of a restricted unit with ID tags missing etc the seller said they were "legit". |

Yeah... performance is definitely expensive. I got to get a run down on the MAWL C1+ vs. the MAWL-DA from one of the BEM engineers yesterday and it's really, really impressive how much they were able to get so much performance out of the Class 1 laser while staying within the FDA's variances. The integration of superior IR illumination technology to ergonomic design definitely makes a huge difference. http://68.media.tumblr.com/7427740c3957e7f656d42dec700b8c7d/tumblr_omihji3jS71qjtttio1_1280.jpg View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Pretty awesome thing this mawl is. Price aside this looks like about the best ir laser on the market now. I'm not going to stick a clunky dbal d2 on my rifle, so if this thing gets to 2k, that's my buy in price.

Premium product for a premium price. Hard for most casual users to make the jump. The functionality increase seems to be worth the coin. I like the fact that they have given the choice to the consumers. I hope they make bank on this and that sets the foundation for others to follow this business model. It's irritating when cool stuff is out but you can't buy "just because". My grandpa always said never tell a customer no just make the price so high they don't want it anymore.

You do know all other lasers also have a 1 year warranty, that includes the restricted units as well, some much higher priced than the new MAWL. Kind of an industry standard. Would I like to see a longer warranty on all lasers? You bet! |
