I looked, but couldn't find commentary on this. Supposedly this model represents one of the more cost effective routes to night vision capability for the casual user. And reportedly (I've heard first hand, and of course in the marketing), this is a significant refinement of the Gen 1 concept, into something usable.
In my case, we're talking maybe once a year hog hunt type usage on a pleasant night, a couple hundred yards or so, and if one gets away, no big deal. That said, I tried cheap Russian Gen 1 NV 10 years ago. That was a waste of money, so sure don't want to repeat that!

After watching what they are doing with ITAR to Gunsmiths right now, I just have an edgy feeling about the availability of stuff like this long term, so maybe it's time to pick something up.
