There have been several threads in the past; here is a chance to consolidate current concepts for the topic.

Ballistic rig on the left, scout rig on the right.  The plates are both bolted down to keep from changing position, with the top strap minimizing stress on that joint, as well as providing a very convenient place to ty-rap the Guardians.

The MSA rig is balanced on a styrofoam mannequin head with the PVS both up and down; it is like that on a real head as well.

Edited to add a couple shots with the CSM bracket:

Updated with the do rag replacement pic.

Is that a dovetail bridge or do you have an adaptor there that I cannot see in the pic? Edit: yes it is a dovetail bridge, cool. Unfortunate that one is not available over here in the EU given the MUM-14 is pretty much the only mil-spec unit you can get easily.

Same!

Annnnnnd my cock and balls showed up!
I like it. Plenty of battery storage and with the weights removed and the battery sleeve removed I can fit my external battery pack inside for powering my GoPro.
The only downside and this isn't TNVC's fault, is that there is not a lot of Velcro under the cock portion on the TW mesh cover.
Other than that I love it!

I just picked up an NVM14 for half retail NIB and got it mounted. It uses a different mount than standard issue J-Arm etc but I was able to tap the mount on the monocle and it works great! I have a weapon mount on the way as well. Man I wish the flip to the side mount wasn't so expensive!! Anyway, I do have a couple questions. Most of my optics are NV capable but I use my NV on my off eye. It works great except that I can not get a sight picture with the NV deployed. The end of the NV touches mt weapon and prevents me from getting a good sight picture through my optic. I can easily retract the NV and carry on (my helmet and Comtacs don't interfere.) So what is the SOP on this? What is the most practical way to go from NV operations to a solid target acquisition? FYI, I have this issue on many different platforms, from subguns (MP5, UMP, M10) to carbines (AK, AR, G3, Aug, Tavor etc) so I don't think it is that. Perhaps it requires an artificially high mounted optic?

Thanks!

Also, can someone tell me why my linked images show up as a link instead of an image? I used the "insert image" option.

There are places that teach how to effectively use helmet mounted NODS with a weapon  mounted optic, but there are special considerations and it requires high mounts and training.  I've also only seen pictures of it being done with duals.

You can look through NV compatible optic like an Aimpoint or eotech but its  a PITA

Much easier to mount a DBAL or ATPIAL-C and use the IR laser for aiming.

Thanks for the info guys. Not to get too far off topic, but in the case of using IR lasers. would you then use the NV on your dominate eye? Any links for a discussion on this topic?

I run my monocular on my non-dominate eye.  If I need to flip up my NOD and turn on white light, I want my dark adapted eye to do the aiming.  I'm not saying that's the way it's supposed to be done, that's just how I choose to roll.

edited to add:  for clarity, I use a DBAL i2 9007

For flipping between dark and light this is the way it should be done especially if you have a laser.

I orient the fresh batteries in my ballast pouch in the correct polarity. When one dies I replace it in the reverse polarity so that I do not loose ballast.

Good batteries go in, bad batteries go out.  What happens to the good batteries?

Seriously though, you don't have a problem with those sliding out?

Evidently you aren't tracking. The sleeve holds the batteries very tightly and then sleeve then goes in the ballast pouch. Zero chance of them sliding out.

The idea with the polarity markings and the orientation is when you need to a fresh battery pull it out of the sleeve and replace it with the dead battery by insering it in the wrong orientation, thus identifying it as a dead battery. By doing so, you are not changing the weight of the ballast.

AA batteries are on the other side.

Smart idea I suppose but one or two batteries doesn't weigh enough to notice a difference.
