I couldnt find the thread but.
What is the bottom line on changing barrel lenghts on an SBR. I.E. can you put a 7.5in barrel on a SBR that has a form 4 that says 11.5in or vice versa?
Is it in writing anywhere?

You can put any barrel length you want on a registered SBR. I think that the common consensus is that you "should" only notify the BATF of barrel length changes on firearms that you cannot change barrels on easily (AK variants, etc.) On an AR-15, barrel swaps are easy -- you'd be writing letters constantly if you swapped out different length uppers on range trips.

You can change them freely.  The only thing you are requested to notify the NFA Branch of, is any "permanent" configuration change.  For example: if it is registered as an 11.5" barrel, and you decide to put a 7.5" barrel on it, sell off all your other uppers, and permanently leave it that way.  Otherwise, change them at will.
