One of my Airmen has a Model 1868 Trapdoor in
50-70. Family heirloom that's been passed down forever.

However it's missing the barrel bands. Numrich turned up nothing for those.

Would .45-70 Trapdoor or Model 1861 barrel bands work on a Model 1868?

I don't think they are the same. Try Al Frasca at http://www.trapdoorcollector.com/. He is one of the premiere trapdoor experts.

Ask over here also.  Lot of serious trapdoor/US rifle shooters and collectors there.  Someone may even have some parts to help out.

They use the bands from an 1861 to 1864 .58 muzzle loader rifle. That is what the Allen convertions were made from.
The date is on the lock plate.

Try Ebay as a last resort. Usually higher priced.
