My personal opinion.

The one you are holding is probably worth the opening bid of the auction. Tough to say without pics, though.

The one in the auction is at least a hundred dollars overpriced. I wouldn't pay over $450 for it. The opinions of others will vary, but I see them all the time, in much nicer condition, that won't sell at that price.

i gave 550$ for mine, 750 does seem a bit high.

For $750 it needs to be in very good to excellent condition. All parts should be blued except receiver, barrel including front sight base and safety lever. These 3 are parkerized. It should have visible acceptance stamps under the cutoff (RA/FJA and an Ordnance escutcheon). It should have 4(?) subinspector marks on the bottom of the stock under the magazine well. Stock should be straight gripped (S stock)

Barrel is proper for the serial number.

The two dowels would seem to indicate a stock repair of some sort. The heel is a common failure point if the buttplate got smacked on the ground, like in drill. If you look closer you will probably see a repair outline.

They didn't hand rifles out like candy at the end of WW2.

These are the cartouches and acceptance stamps he is talking about, these are on my rifle, it has not been rearsenaled.

the pics are of an 03-a3 not a regular 1903. If it had been a pristine remington 1903 the price would not be out of line. for an 03-a3 it is a bit high

The price is fine.  They've been going up for the last 10 years or so.
