I purchased an enfield  no. 5 jungle carbine around 1987 and had a lot of fun shooting it but I noticed that the only markings on the receiver is the serial number which is 1 letter and 3 digits. It has all the correct features of the no.5 and is in excellent condition but why no markings???

Do you see a marking that looks like M47C, perhaps?

That would indicate a rifle manufactured at BSA Shirley.

One letter follower by 3 digits is propper form for a Jungle Carbine serial number.

Considering that the reciever markings on the JC's were electropenciled, they could have been covered over if it was refinished (say at FTR). My no4 mk1 for example, was FTR marked before being refinished and the electropencil FTR markings can only be seen (barely) under good light at an angle. Even the stamped markings "strength" is reduced by the refinish.

Well, does the barrel have the lightening cuts? No = fake or rebarrel by Bubba using a cut done #4 tube.
Does the receiver have the lightening cuts (ie: more metal milled off then a #4 Mk 1)? If no= FAKE!
Is the sight ranged to 800 = #5 Mk1, a sight ranged to 1200 is for the #4 rifle.
