Or is it one that a range wouldnt want shot there because it might punch holes in the backstop? Its a fancy range that allows up to .50 caliber but no steel core or "aromor piercing".

Never got into 54Rs, but they sure are cheap...Ide buy it just for the brass..I dont think it amour piercing ..

No, it just has a copper jacket and a lead core.  You need a steel core for it to be armor piercing.  The range shouldn't have any problems with it.

Ive used it before... I am pretty sure its not armor piercing... ive used it before... went thru maybe a 8 inch thick log, stopped in the next.

Lead core LB should be good to go. I've shot it before at quarter inch thick steel plate, and the steel just laughed it off.

steel core is not technically a.p. unless hardend, most centerfire rifles over 2k f.p.s. will penetrate soft armor reguardless of construction. my m44 will knock out aprox. 1/2-3/4 dia. slug of 3/8'' thick mild steel @ 50 yrds. w/ lead core light ball. the steel slug looks like it was punched out by a die.

The Russians use color coded tips like we do and they use black for AP like us.
