These are .45 auto military shot cartridges. Pilot survival loaded by Remington in 1944. The headstamp is RA 4. I have a couple sealed boxes and this one opened box.

In the 1911 or 1911A1 pistol these have to be single loaded as they won't feed and sometimes won't eject very well.  They're not very common to find and the sealed 20rd boxes are worth about $75+ each.
